Description of the job

A vacancy for a NMS Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Stevenage.
This role sits within the Service Engineering, Systems Engineering team. This team are responsible for the provision of support to project delivery, installation of services across all Airbus Defence & Space (UKGC) owned sites and at customer sites (as applicable), support for the provision of Network Management Systems and Fault Management System implementation. This role also provides long term service design and implementation advice to the support teams.

Travel is expected to the Airbus Defence & Space (UKGC) Ground Station installations on a frequent basis. As part of the role there may also be a requirement to travel to customer installations overseas.

The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Liaison with customer, SDA and project manager to capture all user and system requirements in order to define the service requirements specification.
·  Create full system design extrapolating from PDR design documents, involvement in the creation of system concept model (if applicable) and all relevant documentation.
·  Implement & test the service (including provision of oversight for implementation activities). Systems engineers are expected to support installation at any of our customer's sites.
·  Provision of specialist 24/7 on-call network support on a rotation basis within a team.
·  Carrying out VV&T (Validation, Verification & Test) on delivered services
·  Creation of test plans and specifications,
·  Creation and ownership of all relevant documentation to support the service in its final operational state.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  Demonstrable experience in Network Management technologies.
·  Ability to design and build new systems.
·  Proficient in use of Linux.
·  Ability to configure IBM Tivoli suite modules. (Netcool Omnibus, Netcool Omnibus Probes, Tivoli Integrated Portal, Tivoli Network Manager)
·  Detailed understanding of IP communications layer.
·  Knowledge of satellite communications systems.
