Master Thesis (d/f/m) within Implementation of a GPS Monitoring Algorithm

Your location

At our Donauwörth site, located on the banks of the river Danube, we develop helicopters from the initial idea to the airworthy product. Watch them take off and touch down on our own on-site test airfield.

Your tasks and responsibilities

This thesis shall investigate the enhancement of the current GPS data monitoring and GPS data selection for the ground speeds and position used by the ground speed based upper modes. The GPS data monitoring can be supported by additional information delivered by the GPS receiver itself.

Additionally, a more specific GPS data monitoring shall be developed to support LPV approaches using only one satellite-based augmentation systems (SBAS) capable GPS receiver. A second standard GPS receiver shall be used to ensure that the entry point to the LPV approach satisfies the precision requirement. An adequate position cross monitoring filtering (for example Kalman filtering or hybrid filtering) shall be selected based on hardware, SW and precision requirements.

Literature review about GPS monitoring strategies

· 
Implementation of enhanced GPS data monitoring and selection in the AFCS SW

· 
Implementation of cross monitoring of SBAS capable GPS receiver with standard GPS receiver in AFCS SW

· 
Test in Matlab/Simulink environment with flight test data

· 
Test of GPS monitoring and selection function on AFCS bench

· 
Tuning of filtering parameters according to the evaluation results

 Desired skills and qualifications

 

· 
Student (d/f/m) in the field of automatic control, aeronautics, or comparable

· 
Basic understanding in helicopter flight performance and flight control systems

· 
Knowledge in programming and scripting

· 
Knowledge of algebra, and preferably some Matlab experience

· 
Adapting to an open and supportive environment

· 
You have a team spirit, curiosity and endurance

· 
A slight sense of humor is a real plus !

Language skills:

· 
English: fluent

· 
German: fluent (optional)
