Description of the job
A vacancy has arisen in the Manufacturing Engineering team at Broughton Plant for a Jig & Tool Design Engineer to join the Jig & Tool Engineering team.
Airbus Jigs & Tools is part of the Manufacturing Engineering Organisation, providing support to wing manufacture across all programmes.
The role consists of working within the tool engineering team to enable production through the detailed design of jigs and fixtures deployed into the wing production process. The department supports Operations from minor modification and duplication element of the business to projects supporting rate increases, improvement projects and major modification projects.
Tasks & accountabilities
As a Jigs & Tools Tool Design Engineer, some of the tasks and responsibilities you can expect may include;
- Completion of detailed tool designs to the requirements of the request coming from the source document received into the department.
- Compilation of technical work specification detailing the requirements of the request coming from the source document received into the department.
- Completion of technical down selection of tenders against standard evaluation criteria.
- Project monitoring and support of the work packs through their life cycle.
- Project Management of modifications / improvement project / rate requirement projects within Jig & Tool department.
- Conduct / support the completion of design reviews with multi-functional teams to progress the tool design into tool manufacturing.
- Providing technical support to internal customers.
- Providing technical support to external tool manufacturers.
- Assess and evaluate tooling requests in line with procedures.
- Providing technical support for all tool re-certification activities ensuring compliance.
- Answering tooling queries in support of internal and sub-contract tool manufacture, assembly and installation.
- Initiating and managing sub-contract tool manufacture.

Required skills
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or in an equivalent Engineering discipline or demonstrated experience in technical industry – preferably aerospace Tooling.
- Experience in the detailed design of aerospace tooling or similar equipment to be used in an industrial environment.
- Experience in the application of Health & Safety legislation (i.e. PUWER, LOLER, etc.) to the design process.
- Experience in Project Management techniques and managing projects.
- Understanding of product Design and assembly processes particularly Wing.
- A good level of proficiency in Catia V5 or similar CAD system.
- Good written, verbal and communication skills.
- Experience in stress analysis using hand calculations would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of Interchangeability an advantage.
- Experience in Catia V5 and CADDS5 would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of Primes / MDMR an advantage.
