Internship: Non-Destructive Testing and Additive Manufacturing (f/d/m)

· Duration: 6 months
To revolutionize quality assurance by implementing cost-effective, time-saving, and user-friendly methods for real-time or in-process quality assessment directly after/during each step of the additive manufacture workflow.
Your location
At our Donauwörth site, located on the banks of the river Danube, we develop helicopters from the initial idea to the airworthy product. Watch them take off and touch down on our own on-site test airfield.

Your tasks and responsibilities
· You will support a dynamic, interdisciplinary team consisting of a PhD student, Master Thesis’s students, working students and experienced engineers across multiple departments.
· Pioneering Research: Drive innovation in quality assurance for metallic additive manufacturing. This internship provides a strong foundation and a direct pathway to a Master’s thesis in in-process monitoring.
· Broad Engineering Exposure: Gaining hands-on experience in diverse engineering fields, including material testing, CT, ultrasound, fluorescent penetrant inspection, and additive manufacturing processes. Optimizing the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). Improving workflows around state-of-the-art systems like Computer Tomography (CT), Ultrasonics, and Laser Excited Acoustics
· Performing Hardness Measurements and supporting tensile testing of additively manufactured specimens. Analysing and optimizing workflows within the NDT laboratory to improve efficiency and traceability. Designing and 3D-printing innovative toolings and inspection fixtures to enhance NDT testing efficiency.
· Support ongoing research and laboratory activities.
Desired skills and qualifications
· Enrolled full-time student (f/m/d) in the area of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, Non-Destructive Testing, or an equivalent field of study
· Strong analytical and solution-oriented mindset, demonstrate independence, and have a clear willingness to learn
· Communicative and proficient in English, and basic German language skills
· Enjoying challenges across various engineering disciplines, drawn to the challenge and opportunity of working within a highly motivated, young, and resilient team
· Enjoying working in a dynamic, cutting-edge research area
