Airbus Defence & Space Intelligence is a leading provider of optical and radar satellite imagery, geographic information products, software and services delivering geographic information solutions into both private and public sector organisations worldwide. We offer a comprehensive product and services portfolio covering the entire geographic information services value chain – data acquisition and processing, imagery analysis and interpretation, hosting and delivery of large datasets, as well as offering GIS development and consultancy.
Within Airbus Defence & Space Intelligence, the DMC team operates the Disaster Monitoring Constellation of Earth Observation satellites. The team deal with everything from satellite specification, imagery tasking and processing chains, value added applications, and interfacing with end users of satellite imagery and derived geospatial products.

Tasks & accountabilities
During this internship, the activities you may undertake will include;
· Working with the DMC Operations and Product Development teams in order to assess new products, innovative methods and software for generating value added products derived from satellite imagery
· Assisting in the development of automated systems and processes to produce value added products including:
· Analysis of state of the art and users' needs, including background researching
· Requirements capture, definition, tailoring and analysis
· Process and procedure definition
· Development support
· Testing
· Document generation and support
Required skills
Please note our Internships are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement.
It is expected that successful candidates will be working towards a 2:1 degree or equivalent qualification in Remote Sensing, GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Maths, Physics or related subject, with the following relevant degree modules:
· Programming Skills in Remote Sensing, including possibly ENVI with IDL
· Image Processing
· Principles and Practice of Remote Sensing
Furthermore, the successful candidates should be able to demonstrate the following relevant skills:
· Technical / IT / Behavioural / Language skills required:
· Strong communication, interpersonal and creative skills
· Strong analytical and problem solving skills
· Able to work under own initiative and in a team
· Able to acquire new skills and knowledge rapidly and share them with others
· Adaptability to changes in tasks / priorities
· Experience required (e.g. work experience / clubs / societies / charity work / hobbies etc.):
· Experience with GIS and Remote sensing software (e.g. ENVI, ERDAS Imagine, ESRI, QGIS, MapINFO etc)
· Understanding of the basic concepts, principles and applications of remote sensing
· Ability to develop algorithms to analyse data
· Understanding of the functionality of programming languages for image processing and data analysis is beneficial
