Description of the job

We are looking for a dynamic and passionate engineer to join the Aerodynamics team to shape the aircraft of the future. In this influential role, you will be responsible for the design and integration of wing aerodynamic shapes for all Airbus commercial aircraft. At the heart of the engineering solution, Aerodynamics shapes the overall performance of the aircraft ensuring Airbus aircraft remain at the forefront of aircraft design.

The Aerodynamics team is responsible for delivering aerodynamic shapes, modelling and expertise for all Airbus aircraft. Utilising advanced CFD, coupled with wind tunnel testing, flight testing and world-class aerodynamic expertise the team work in close collaboration with other disciplines to deliver an optimised integrated aircraft design. The position will operate within the international Aerodynamics department reporting directly to the component Aerodynamics United Kingdom team leader.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognised authorities.

Tasks & accountabilities

The main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Aerodynamic shape design and optimisation.
·  Aerodynamic analysis using CFD and optimisation methods.
·  Collaboration across project teams and disciplines to achieve an integrated optimum overall aircraft design.
·  Responsibility to technically integrate multi-disciplinary constraints in order to deliver aerodynamic solutions to customers.
·  Research into new wing design methodologies and the application of new design tools.
·  The role may also involve technically leading other team members or sub-contractors operationally on a given project in the international environment.

This role will involve travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  Degree in Aerospace engineering or similar, with specialisation in Aerodynamics & CFD.
·  Aptitude for complex problem solving and innovation, with a flair for aerodynamic design.
·  Experience with 3D CAD.
·  Experience with aerodynamic modelling using advanced CFD tools and processes.
·  Excellent communication and presentation skills and fluency in English.
·  Team player with a strong customer focus.

Desirable skills

·  An understanding of wind tunnel testing and test techniques.
·  An understanding of flight test techniques and aerodynamic data analysis.
·  Knowledge of other Engineering disciplines, such as: Overall aircraft design, performance, loads, handling qualities, structural design, manufacturing and other fields of fluid dynamics.
·  Catia V5 experience with a focus on surfacing.
·  Tecplot (or similar) experience.
·  Experience with Python, Matlab and Linux.
