Our client within the public sector in East London, are seeking a full time Market Manager to join their team on a temporary contract.
The successful applicant will have experience either working within Markets or Commercial sales.
You will look to generate income via leases and tenancy, waste management, and organising events for non-market days.
Due to the nature of the role, there will be weekend work involved.
Specific Accountabilities of the Role
· The day-to-day operation and supervision of Barking Market ensuring that it operates in an orderly, clean and safe manner at all times - in accordance with Council Policy
· To manage, engage and implement a range of themed market days throughout the year
· Planning a shift pattern to cover the market trading days per week, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays that the Market operates, any extra days the Market opens including special events, allowing all staff including the manager to work a standard 35-hour week and planning overtime when needed to cover special events or extra days.
· Ensure the market and its accesses are clean and tidy prior to opening.
· Oversee the setting-up, shutting down and site tidiness of the market during market trading days, including the allocation of spaces
· Implement statutory requirements, byelaws, rules and regulations relating to Barking Market by enforcing monitoring to ensure traders comply with terms and conditions and enforcement of regulations
· Collect daily/weekly rent from traders. Provide the account for regular sums of money, and balance PDQ payments.
· Receipts, bank the monies and complete a reconciliation of the tolls to ensure that income is complete
· Ensure the monies collected balances with the bank account deposits from external collection service
· Work with stallholders, customers and others in response to their queries, foster good relationships and generally promote the activity of the market
· Deal with enquiries, complaints and incidents
· Be responsible for ensuring that the Council generates as much income as possible from the operation of Barking Market
· Be responsible for bringing in new business and traders to the market
· Keeping up to date spreadsheets for rent list and finance reconciliation
· Be the first point of contact for Market for internal and external agencies and public including market traders.
· Be responsible for the cost centre management of the market budget
