Adecco Durham are recruiting for an exciting Opportunity to work within Teeside University as a HR Advisor covering Maternity leave.
Hours of Work will be Monday - Friday, pay will be dependant on experience.
You will provide an efficient solutions-focused service across the University,
delivering an effective and efficient generalist HR service to Managers, HR Business
Partners, the HR management team and client groups. You will provide professional
and comprehensive support and advice to allocated Schools and Professional
Support Service Departments, and other key stakeholders within and outside the HR
Department, on all aspects of HR and specifically on employee relations matters
consistent with internal processes and legal requirements to build strong and
effective working relationships.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. To provide advice and guidance to School and Professional Support Service
Department based management on staff conditions of service, local working
practices and the University's HR policies and procedures, supporting and
complementing the work of the HR Business Partners to ensure
comprehensive advice to managers at each stage of the University's HR
employee relations procedures and processes.
2. To proactively contribute and work to the HR Annual Plan objectives, for
which the HR Business Partner has primary responsibility, ensuring that
delegated objectives are met in line with the plan and highlighting risks to
delivery to enable successful delivery of the Plan.
3. To provide accurate, effective and pragmatic advice and guidance to
Managers on the management of employee relations issues, such as
employment contracts and conditions, employment law, the University's HR
policies and procedures and cases, as delegated by the HR Business Partner,
such as performance management, discipline, capability, grievances and
sickness absence, delivering proactive support to allocated Schools,
Professional Support Service Departments and other customers and
colleagues, ensuring delivery of a professional and efficient customer service,
informing and escalating issues to the HR Business Partner and obtaining
legal advice from Legal and Governance Services where necessary.
4. To assist the HR Business Partner in obtaining, reviewing and analysing
customer feedback, ensuring standards and the customer experience, are
continuously improved, effectively managing and responding to high volume
information requests and queries, providing efficient and accurate responses
in line with expected standards of service.
5. To maintain and manage an HR/Employee Relations caseload to ensure that
cases are resolved in a timely and efficient manner, handling the majority of
informal and formal casework, supporting investigation processes and
advising line managers, dealing with potentially delicate situations or with
demanding customers, in an appropriate and professional manner, liaising
with the trade unions on individual casework and or projects, as directed by
the HR Business Partner and/or Deputy Director of HR.
6. To support the Executive Director of HR, Deputy Director of HR and HR
Business Partners in relation to the arrangement, conduct and completion of
formal casework, ensuring effective liaison with all parties.
7. To provide advice and guidance on complex sickness absence and
Occupational Health queries which have proceeded from initial stages
handled by the HR Officer; supporting line managers at sickness absence
meetings, monitoring, recording and updating the HR Business Partner on the
progress of individual cases, providing guidance to employees and line
managers on the University's sickness absence processes and associated
activities, including supporting managers and HR Business Partners on the
procedures for Occupational Health referrals and liaising with the University's
Occupational Health Adviser concerning referrals to the Occupational Health
Adviser and to the external Occupational Health Physician/Occupational
Health Psychologist Service, with reference to the HR Business Partner,
following up with line managers on recommended actions. This includes
assessing absence and attendance data, as provided by the HR Officer, and
acting as a coach for managers to enable them to address attendance
concerns and manage performance.
8. As necessary, represent HR on recruitment and selection interview panels for
posts within the designated portfolio and participate as a panel member in the
selection process, with the expectation to advise the chair on the design of the
selection process and the use of the most effective and relevant selection
techniques.
9. To assist in the redesign of working practices to increase efficiency by
identifying core current approaches, envisioning future processes and ways of
working, inputting to the revision and development of policies and processes,
collaborating with the HR Policies, Projects, Rewards and Benefits Manager
to enable successful implementation of new/revised polices and processes.
10. To conduct gap analysis to understand what needs to change to move from
current practice to future practice, exploring customer needs by asking
pertinent questions to provide the customer with the optimum level of service.
