Adecco are currently recruiting for a Detention Officer for Cheshire Constabulary to be based at Blacon Police Station. This role will involve assisting the Custody officer in the detention and welfare of detained persons and their property, and the administration of the Custody Service.
This role will involve:
* Taking photographs, fingerprints and perform non-intimate searches with or without consent ensure appropriate bagging of exhibits.
* Searching cells and rooms within the cell area, checking visitors and their baggage to ensure no breaches of security.
* Tidying cells, corridors and rooms and removing bedding when not required, ensuring that soiled and dirty bedding is dispatched for laundering and clean small deposits of bodily fluids in order to comply with strict hygiene standards required.
* Assisting in the accurate maintenance of records. Ensuring statistical information is available when required. Providing assistance in the administrative procedure relating to the recording of search warrants and authorities for persons, vehicles and premises.
* Ordering and serving food to detainees ensuring that strict hygiene levels are maintained and that after use, catering utensils are removed and cleaned ensuring compliance with food hygiene regulations and that food stocks are maintained.
* Controlling the movement of detainees within the cell area in relation to exercise periods, toilet facilities and to supervise visits by official representatives and relatives ensuring that security considerations are complied with.
* Ensuring that all prisoner's health and welfare needs are attended to and when necessary, under the supervision of the custody officer, issue medication as prescribed by a qualified medical practitioner, to detained persons ensuring that all the actions are correctly recorded on the individual's custody record.
* Dealing with all enquiries in relation to detained persons, including contacting Solicitors, supervising visits by Solicitors, the Probation Service and other outside agencies, so ensuring the smooth running of the custody suite.
* Providing assistance to a police officer or independently to restrain, using reasonable force, detained persons who become violent and place those persons in a contained environment, ensuring that any damage to the property or equipment is reported to the custody officer.
* Preparing ID procedures involving the capturing of a suspect's image, liaison with the suspect, their representative and the officer in the case and to produce a set of images suitably packaged for use by nominated identification officer in any subsequent video identification procedure.
* Must be able to work a 24 hour shift pattern of work
* Must be able to travel anywhere in the Force area
Experience and Qualifications Required:
* Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
* Experience of working within a people orientated environment.
* Typically some experience of supervising people in an institutionalised environment will be an indication of a candidates range of acquired skills.
* Specific training will be provided.
* Must be able to pass a relevant PNC course
