Job description
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Data & Information Standards Support Officer to work for West Yorkshire Police at their headquarters in Wakefield.
This is a temporary position until February 2026 and will be working 37 hours a week Monday to Friday hybrid working.

Overall purpose of role - To support the Records and MOPI functions in compliance with Data Protection Principles 3, 4 and 5 (or equivalent ensuring that force information and personal data is accessible, adequate, relevant and not excessive, accurate and not kept longer than is necessary. Support the promotion and implement of records management and MOPI standards, policies and procedures with the objectives of ensuring lawful information handling improving service delivery and of protecting the Force's information.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by managers, officers and staff in their decision making and actions; reinforcing and influencing them through all interactions and processes.
· Proactively manage the performance, attendance and wellbeing of police officers and police staff against the required standards to ensure they are dealt with and supported in accordance with the correct policies and procedures.

· Provide support and assistance to the Records Management and MOPI (including Review, Retention and Disposal and Data Quality), ensuring compliance with Data Protection Act (or equivalent) principles (data quality and retention) APP, relevant standards and guidance, and best practice, particularly in relation to Data Protection Impact Assessments, collaborations, technology design and implementation, retention scheduling, SharePoint and data protection breaches.
· Be responsible for the supervision and support (performance, attendance and wellbeing) of Data and Information Standards Officers in line with Force standards, including ensuring that the work is of an appropriate quality, and that statutory and agreed timescales are met.
· Act as a single point of contact for Record Management and MOPI advice and guidance, ensuring appropriate standards and measures are communicated to force information users and that they are signposted to appropriate policies and standards, or queries escalated if appropriate. Provide first line support for Information Management services as part of the IM Helpdesk.
· Identify process developments and training and awareness solutions to support continuous improvement and productivity. Keep comprehensive and up to date records, including Standards Operating Procedures, guidance documents, audit trails, privacy impact assessments, retention schedules and disposal logs. To develop and manage the Records and MOPI section of the Information Management intranet and internet site.
· Search force systems and conduct enquiries to gather information and data for the Data and Information Standards Manager. Support the Manager with the delivery of a Force wide Data Standards Programme. Conduct Internal Reviews on behalf of the department.
· Collate and provide management information for the Data and Information Standards Manager for submission to the Head of Data and Information, other departments and external bodies e.g. NPCC as required.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
· Proven IT skills and experience of working with computer packages and databases
· Proven experience of searching, analysing and reviewing data Essential * Good knowledge of Data Protection, including Data Quality principle
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
· Experience of delivering results in a customer focussed environment, ensuring customer satisfaction and that deadlines are achieved
· Has the knowledge and ability to make reliable and accurate decisions using the National Decision Model and Code of Ethics and document an appropriate decision to support the rationale made.
· Prepared to work flexibly to support the requirements of the Unit and in any post appropriate to the grade at such other place within the Force as may be reasonably required Essential * Ability and willingness to travel for business purposes
