Job description
Our client are looking to recruit a Corporate Solicitor to start ASAP.
This role is on a temporary contract, is paying £25.58 an hour and is based in Croydon.
Key Responsibilities:
- To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive legal service for the Council and its officers by ensuring that Members, Chief Officers, Departments and Committees are fully advised in relation to all aspects of Local Government Law and such specialised areas as may from time to time be identified by the Council Solicitor and Monitoring Officer.
- To be responsible for ensuring that legal services casework is cost effectively undertaken by the external legal service providers/Counsel and to work with those providers to lead on the provision of necessary legal advice including on major projects.
- To take individual and collective professional responsibility for championing the diversity agenda, proactively implementing initiatives which secure equality of access and outcomes. Commit to continual development of personal understanding of diversity.
-Demonstrating a detailed knowledge of relevant law and practice, the provision of clear and comprehensive advice and drafting skills with a high degree of initiative and assurance;
- Developing knowledge and experience in specialist areas of legal advice e.g. planning, housing, contracts and procurement, information;
- Preparing and presenting topics on current legal issues at Client seminars or road shows.
Key Skills:
- Qualified solicitor or barrister;
- Knowledge of local government law procedures and processes;
- Understanding and working knowledge of the law relating to local government structures.
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to give advice in a confident and persuasive manner;
- Ability to organise own work priorities and meet deadlines;
- Ability to work under pressure and deal with unforeseen and urgent demands;
- Good time management and personal organisational skills;
- Ability to research and advise across a wide range of areas involving local government legislation e.g. human rights, finance, information management and procurement issues;
- Ability to demonstrate high competence and effective working practices.
