Job description
Actemium Rail (Birmingham) are looking to recruit – Full-Time Permanent JIB Labourers (All grades) to Support our ongoing rail growth plan. We are currently seeing an increase in project awards for HS2 and Network Rail new builds alongside infrastructure enhancements resulting in a need to strengthen our in-house rail team.
We are looking to identify Labourers to assist Electricians in the installation of cables and other unskilled work under supervision in our on-going and future projects within a rail division. A flexible, innovative, and technical approach along with good communication skills are key to the role. The role would suit someone wishing to work in the electrical industry in a supportive role in a rail environment.
Based from our Birmingham location, you will be required to work at several client’s locations throughout the UK. The ideal candidate must be flexible with Working Hours as there is a requirement for normal hours, nights and weekends, along with travel and Out of Town working as and when required.
Although a Labourer performs the non-qualified tasks associated with an electrical installation/ repair under the direction of a qualified electrician, they also learn and practice more advanced trade skills.
The following Skills and Qualifications Include:
Identification of Electrical Materials – when cutting, pulling, or installing electrical wiring, labourer’s need to identify electrical materials and distinguish between different wires based on their colors.
Handling skills – working with small, hard-to-grip, and hard-to-reach wires and other materials, relying on small tools or their hands alone to facilitate this work.
Clean driving record –able to drive company vehicles if needed.
Physical fitness – may be required to work in hazardous areas, climbing ladders/ stairs and some lifting.
Cooperating skills –understanding and respecting his or her role as an assistant to the supervising electrician and follows directions and instructions accordingly.
Use of standard everyday tools in the electrical trade, including the following:
- Basic hand tools (pliers, electrician scissors, wire strippers, soldering irons)
- Electrical equipment (circuit tracers, multimeters, thermal scanners)
Desired profile
The Ideal Candidate would have a good education and good understanding of Health and Safety compliance, but no formal education is otherwise required. On-the-job training is a hallmark of the electrical trade. Also (though not essential) a Labourer ECS Card and one or more years of relevant experience & Personal Track Safety (PTS) accreditation.
