Job description

The Role

 

The Quantity Surveyor will provide support to the Operations Manager to assist with the effective running of the business unit. 

 

The job holder will work directly with local project sites and Project / Site Managers to ensure optimum delivery of projects

 

Duties will include, but are not limited to: 

 

  • Work closely with the commercial director and business unit managers to ensure that contract and commercial risks are closely monitored and negated

 

  • To take ownership of the commercial aspects of the project, design, mobilisation, construction, completion, handover and final account

 

  • Administration of contract delivery and management of costs:
  • cost and cashflow forecasting

 

  • Work with the project managers to provide accurate costs to complete
  • Supply chain evaluation and procurement (material and labour)
  • Contract reviews
  • Management and administration of sub-contract accounts
  • Change management
  • Drafting and issuing contractual notifications
  • Pricing and agreement of compensation events
  • Production and agreement of final accounts

 

  • Supporting the project managers with sound commercial and contractual advice

 

  • Input into pricing projects and maintaining risk registers

 

  • Support, including mentoring of project managers and supervisors as required

Desired profile

  • A third level qualification in Quantity Surveying with a minimum of at least two years post qualification experience preferably in a construction environment with a civil engineering bias.
  • The successful candidate should have experience/willing to learn about mechanical and electrical industry in an infrastructure/ process environment.
  • Highly IT literate with experience of applying general / specialist packages within QS context.
  • Previous experience of negotiating and interpreting conditions of contract.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills combined with the analytical skills to reach realistic workable solutions.
  • A strong commercial focus with an ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to use initiative to develop new approaches and improve systems.
  • The flexibility and adaptability to succeed within a demanding business with high levels of motivation and evidence of being a self starter.
  • Good decision making and problem solving skills and the ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and be able to negotiate and use conflict resolution skills where appropriate.
  • A flexible / adaptable approach to job role, working away from home when required and to a fast changing business environment.
  • Highly motivated with strong levels of accountability and ownership.
  • Flexibility to travel throughout the UK when required.
