Job description

Actemium Design is a national Engineering design company with a Nuclear sector focus. Being part of Vinci ENERGIES with a turnover of €13.7 billion, has allowed NWP to grow in an exciting but secure manner. We are currently recruiting a Senior Mechanical Engineer. The ideal candidate will Mechanical Engineering experience within the Nuclear sector and be Security Cleared.

The Principal Mechanical Engineer will work with the Engineering Manager to support the successful delivery of the programme. The successful candidate will be responsible for taking a Lead Engineer role within the mechanical design team, overseeing several packages of work. They will need to develop a deep understanding of the technical requirements, communicate these to the engineering team and coordinate successful delivery under the guidance of the
Engineering Manager and schedule set by the Project Manager.

 

The role requirements include:

 

  • Developing a thorough understanding of the mechanical scope of work and functional requirements from the customer’s specifications and by engaging with Subject Matter Experts (SME) within the customer organisation
  • Managing the day-to-day activities of the Senior Mechanical Engineers and their teams for each package of work
  • Ensuring the design deliverables for all packages to which they have been  assigned are being produced as per the project schedule and aligned to key milestones
  • Approval of checked work and acceptance in accordance with the company procedures
  • Presenting on their assigned work packages scope at design reviews and other technical project meetings

Desired profile

  • Several years’ experience working in a design office environment, preferably in the nuclear sector or other highly regulated industry
  • Preferably degree qualified engineer or qualified by experience and Chartered with an appropriate industrial body, i.e. IMechE
  • Experience of managing a team of Mechanical Engineers and Designers and coordinating workload to ensure successful delivery to programme milestones
  • Understanding of the design development lifecycle, preferably to the RIBA standard
  • Experience of carrying out mechanical engineering design using the latest 3D software tools, preferably Inventor
  • Design of mechanical handling equipment, containment systems, material transfer equipment, pipework, jigs, fixtures, and tooling, etc.
  • Excellent understanding of working to technical documentation, standards, and procedures, especially those that apply to the nuclear industry
  • Production of technical deliverables such as datasheets, Mechanical Handling Diagrams (MHD), Material Flow Diagrams (MFD), Verification and Validation (V&V) schedule, Assumptions and Risk Register, etc.
  • Liaising with suppliers of specialist equipment
