Job Description

The Kitchen Porter is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen and surrounding areas. They are responsible for cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment, washing dishes, and ensuring that the kitchen is safe and hygienic. They may also assist with basic food preparation tasks as required.

Key Responsibilities:

- Ensure the kitchen and surrounding areas are kept clean and hygienic at all times.

- Wash dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, and other kitchen utensils, ensuring they are cleaned to a high standard.

- Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as chopping vegetables, preparing salads, and assembling sandwiches.

- Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, such as ovens, grills, and fryers, ensuring they are in good working order.

- Dispose of kitchen waste and recycling in a safe and hygienic manner.

- Sweep and mop kitchen floors and ensure they are free from any spills or hazards.

- Ensure that all cleaning and sanitising agents are used correctly and safely.

- Follow health and safety procedures at all times, including wearing appropriate protective clothing and footwear.

- Report any accidents or incidents to the Head Chef/Kitchen Manager immediately.

- Assist with any other duties as required by the Head Chef/Kitchen Manager.

Qualifications

- Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen is preferred but not essential.

- Knowledge of basic food safety and hygiene practices.

- Good communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work well in a team environment.

- Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects.

Additional Information

Working Conditions:

- May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

- May be exposed to hot, cold, and humid conditions.

- May be required to lift heavy objects.
