Occupational Summary:
The individual is responsible for performing dynamic impact simulation independently. The individual will also be responsible for developing new and time saving finite element modeling techniques.
Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions):
· Implement proper Engineering Approach in Design Process.
· Responsible for design validation with respect to applicable requirements utilizing analytical process and testing as necessary.
· Analyze design and test data to implement proper engineering approach into FE model.
· Implement analytical approach and establish correlation with actual test data.
· Set up the model for impact simulation for 16 and 14G loading conditions using Altair tools and/or LS-Prepost.
· Perform FEA on detail parts and assemblies to verify compliance with structural and occupant injury criteria.
· Perform necessary linear/non-linear static analysis and dynamic simulation.
· Perform Pre and Post processing.
· Perform topology analysis and shape/weight optimization using Altair Opti-Struct.
· Perform FEA on composite structures and injection molded part.
· Work with design and certification engineers as well as with test laboratory to provide best possible designs.
· Comply with Zodiac Seats procedures (QAP) and certification internal procedures.
· Document all design validation work (including FEA) and maintain database.
· Provides technical guidance to design validation engineers I & II and establishes best practices.
· Ensures quality of model and analysis and on time completion.
· Provides status and schedule updates to department head and other appropriate entities on a regular basis.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements :
Knowledge and Skills:
· Must have a strong background in structural engineering and strength of materials.
· Must have broad understanding of finite element analysis and failure modes .
· Must have FEA experience using LS-Dyna or Radioss. In addition, must have experience using Altair HyperWorks suite or ANSYS. Knowledge of NASTRAN or ABAQUS is preferred.
· Knowledge of stochastic/statistical tools (DOE) and Optimization tools is preferred.
· Knowledge of composites is required. Must understand failure mode for sandwich composites and design layups for seat structures.
· Knowledge of modeling seat belts is required.
· Must have excellent knowledge of ATDs (Anthropomorphic test device) hardware and models.
· Must be detail oriented and have sound engineering judgment.
· Must be self-motivated and a self-starter.
· Must have ability to think strategically and solve problems.
· Must be able to communicate efficiently in writing and verbally.
· Must be able to operate standard office equipment.
· Must be able to perform standard stress analysis.
· Must be able to generate documents such as, plans, data sheets and reports.
· Must be willing to perform tests and some physical work at the test laboratory, as required.
· Basic ProE/CATIA skill is preferred.
· Extensive technological knowledge of all phase of engineering applicable to the seating products is preferred.
· Familiarity with FAA regulations, Boeing/Airbus specifications is preferred.
· Must be able to communicate well with internal departments, customers, and regulatory agencies.
· Must be presentable and write technical presentations
Education and Experience:
Must have a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Aeronautical Engineering or related. Requires 4 years of FEA related experience using LS-Dyna or Radioss. In addition, must have experience using Altair HyperWorks suite or ANSYS. Knowledge of NASTRAN or ANSYS is preferred.
OR
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Aeronautical Engineering or related. Requires 6 years of FEA related experience using LS-Dyna or Radioss. In addition, must have experience using Altair HyperWorks suite or ANSYS. Knowledge of NASTRAN or ANSYS is preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods of time while working with computers and viewing computer monitors, and other office equipment alternated with periods of standing and walking. This position also requires extensive walking/standing to participate in activities on the shop floor. Time period may vary from day to day. Finger dexterity needed in using misc. office equipment such as telephone, typing, ten key, fax, copy machine etc. Bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to approximately twenty pounds are required during tasks related to the job.
