Job description
Zalando's mission is to become the world's leading platform for connecting fashion with people. This goal requires a massive expansion of our business functions. We will serve a wider range of customers in different ways, build new technologies to support our platform architecture and continue to innovate as we expand.
The Technology Innovation Lab - also known as the “Shuttle” - was launched as a dedicated place to support this mission by conducting long-term technology research and enabling group and individual innovation and ideation within Zalando's Technology department. A 450sqm digital fabrication “makerspace”, the Shuttle is accompanied by a small, multidisciplinary team of researchers and project coaches. We are out-of-the-box thinkers who work on future topics, and provide a breeding-ground for user-centric prototyping at the junction of fashion and technology.
The Lab was used extensively for hardware projects during our last Hack Week, Zalando's annual week of open innovation and experimentation. For impressions see the video below:
What excites you
We are looking for a working student who wants to make your mark at one of Europe's most successful tech companies. You enjoy connecting with different people from all over the world working in different roles and positions who have one goal in common: to tinker and build epic stuff. You are pursuing an academic degree, and wish to apply and strengthen your skills within a big organization that remains a start-up company at heart.
Your success is measured by the following key objectives:
· Ensure smooth operations: You support our efforts to maintain our research infrastructure - the workspace, our equipment and devices, and much more.
· Support projects: You provide your superpowers to support different research projects at the junction of fashion, retail and technology.
· Support prototyping: You help people in building prototypes using human-centered design methodologies (e.g. Design Thinking) or digital fabrication (e.g. 3D printing etc.).
What it takes to succeed
· Enrolled (post-)graduate student: You are majoring in technology, entrepreneurship or business, and interested in tackling our research challenges.
· Based in Berlin: You are available for 20 hours per week at our office in Berlin-Mitte.
· An excellent communicator: You are fluent in written and spoken English.
· An innovator and maker at heart: You are genuinely passionate about building epic stuff.
· A go-getter who gets things done: You simply love what you do and drive things forward in a pragmatic way.
