JOB DESCRIPTION

The Claims Advocate is responsible for timely and professional assistance and support including analysis, reporting and advocacy of current, future or potential claims. This position acts as an advocate and claims specialist and maintains positive relations with co-workers, claimants, producers, Account Executives, Account Managers, and carriers. This position is located on-site at a large government contractor located in Reston VA or Moyock NC.

Client Advocates perform a variety of critical functions including but not limited to:

·  Works with overseas personnel to review injury reports, complete Form LS202 and transmit same to Department of Labor and DBA Carrier.
·  Work closely with Insurance Brokers to report to carriers GL, property, litigated, high exposure and specialty claims, including serious or catastrophic injury claims.
·  Monitor and analyze DBA, WC and other claims including conducting period claims reviews with applicable carriers.
·  Provide initial and on-going advocacy on claims, including analysis and interpretation of coverages and reserves.
·  Notify and work with carrier claims administrators and claims consultants.
·  Assist with the gathering and review loss information and prepare claim status reports for quarterly or semi-annual claim review meetings 
·  Respond to and advocate on claims, coverage and exposure questions.
·  Developing and growing relationships with carriers and third part claims administrators.
·  Assist in the implementation of loss control projects, strategies and programs.
·  Limited travel may be required to attend claim reviews.

The Requirements

·  Bachelor’s degree (preferably related to Insurance, Business or Finance). 
·  Professional designations a plus
·  2-5 years relevant experience preferably in insurance claims examination, investigation, adjudication or advocacy, including auto, general liability or worker’s compensation injuries and claims. 
·  Experience with Defense Base Act or Workers Compensation preferred
·  Knowledge of laws, legal codes, procedures and processes involving insurance
·  Technical knowledge of product area or industry
·  Ability to communicate orally and in writing
·  Ability to read and understand information presented in writing
·  Ability to weigh the relative costs and benefits of a potential action
·  Ability to use logic and analysis to identify strengths and weaknesses of arguments or information
·  Ability to obtain relevant information 
·  Ability to evaluate information against a set of standards to verify correctness
·  Ability to handle complaints
·  Ability to analyze and report financial data
·  Personal Computer skills, including, Microsoft Office Suite to include: Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
·  Ability to work independently
