JOB DESCRIPTION
As an Associate within Corporate Development you will work as an internal consultant in a fast-paced environment, supporting the senior leadership team with the design, development, and implementation of projects including: annual and long term business planning, strategic reviews, new ventures, mergers and acquisitions, alliances and divestitures. Role has senior management exposure.
The Role
Working in conjunction with business leadership and other corporate functions, the Corporate Development group monitors the competitive marketplace, identifies high growth and profit opportunities, and helps execute the corporation’s strategic plan through inorganic activities including M&A, divestitures, minority investments and strategic alliances. Key responsibilities include:
Clients
Assist Leadership with the planning, designing, analyzing and implementing various firm-wide initiatives, including strategic reviews, annual and long term business planning, new ventures, and mergers, acquisitions, alliances and divestitures
Assist in the development of the strategic rationale and value creation for mergers and acquisitions, and help execute on the due diligence and post-close integration processes
Manage cross-departmental initiatives and/or work streams across all areas of the firm (firm-wide growth and efficiency opportunities, Operations, Finance, Legal, HR, Marketing and Communications, etc.)
Generate financial analysis related to M&A, strategic initiatives, new ventures, and competitor analysis
Organize and conduct secondary market research and analyses
People
Act as liaison between senior leadership teams, corporate staff and external consultants
Build relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams across all of our business segments and corporate functions
Excellence
Develop technical knowledge and skills in the areas of strategy, M&A, and new ventures (e.g., financial modelling and valuation, research, project management)
Deliver on projects to meet or exceed internal client expectations
Drive innovation in the corporate development function
The Requirements
Self-starter who can thrive in a fast-paced, evolving business environment with limited oversight/direction
Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or other relevant area, or related work experience, is preferred
Outstanding verbal and written project management, interpersonal and presentation skills
Strong organizational skills; able to work and think in a methodical and orderly way
Excellent business and financial analysis skills, including the ability to analyze data trends, draw conclusions and develop action plans
Proficiency in using the Internet and other tools to conduct research
Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
1-3 years business experience strongly preferred. Background in M&A advisory / corporate development, financial analysis, strategic planning, or consulting is a plus
Misc. Requirements
• Availability to travel about 25% of the time
• Flexibility on working hours – global nature of the work means there may be early morning or evening calls
