What you will do

As a Specialist Engineer, you will play a key role in evaluating ride comfort and vibrations of projects currently in development along with performing target and requirement setting for future Volvo and Mack ICE/BEV vehicles.  This will be accomplished by leading cross-functional activities in collaboration with Full Vehicle Validation and Chassis Engineering to create test plans, acceptance criteria, and system/component performance criteria that will deliver targeted ride comfort and vibration performance.  Additional responsibilities will be to be the lead for problem resolution and analysis of field concerns in these vehicle attribute areas, along with being the local source of best practice knowledge and education.
 
Responsibilities:
•    Creating and tracking vehicle vibration mode management strategy for Volvo and Mack products.
•    Evaluating key vehicle attributes of Ride Comfort and Vibrations, subjectively and objectively.  Must be able to perform independent vehicle testing, including obtaining a CDL.
•    Leading a cross-functional team to solve project/field ride/vibration concerns with urgency, as they arise.
•    Providing vehicle architects with fundamental design targets and specifications in early program phases to deliver appropriate attribute results, through competitor benchmarking and market driver analyses.
•    Attending technical and cross-functional meeting forums to stay up to date with the latest developments & advocating for the best total solutions for our vehicle plans.
•    Leading education of key ride comfort and vibration aspects and methods to raise the competency level of Chassis Engineering in Greensboro.
•    Creating and presenting technical summaries tailored for different audiences including senior management.
•    Identifying the key product opportunities, challenges, and gaps that the organization needs to address.  Support chassis product roadmaps for emerging technology integration.
 
Your future team
Our Team, Chassis Engineering, is a highly skilled group responsible for all chassis development of the North American Mack and Volvo truck brands. We develop chassis components and systems for internal combustion powered vehicles, electro-mobility powered vehicles, and upcoming autonomous vehicle solutions.
This position will report to the Group Manager for Vehicle Suspensions in the Chassis Engineering department. The Vehicle Suspension group is responsible for air and mechanical suspension solutions for all Volvo Truck North America applications. The Vehicle Suspension team works in close cooperation with many different functional areas within the Chassis area.

Who are you?

You are an experienced engineer that is a team player and enjoys working in a cross-functional environment to develop engineering solutions for heavy-duty trucks. You thrive on solving complex problems and are known for your “outside of the box” creative solutions.

Requirements:
•    Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
•    12+ years of related product development experience in the automotive industry, specifically in the areas of Chassis/Vehicle Engineering and NVH.
•    5+ years of Vehicle Dynamics experience, especially in limit handling and ride comfort evaluations.  Must also be comfortable setting up and performing instrumented vehicle evaluations.
•    Ability to mentor and guide design engineers in best practice design methods.
•    Ability to work in the USA without sponsorship (US Citizen or Green Card).

Preferred competencies and attributes:
•    Heavy-duty vehicle suspension systems experience.
•    Familiar with CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) tools for FEA (structural) and/or multi-body vehicle dynamic simulation.
•    Familiar with PTC Creo tools.
•    Strong time management skills.
•    Proactive work style, familiar with Agile work process.
•    Ability to manage multiple tasks.
•    Ability for occasional domestic and international travel (10%)
