Background

We are looking for you who wants to explore the future of sustainable solutions for marine drivelines. One of the main challenges with large scale battery design is the optimization of design and installation solutions to reduce the overall weight and volume used by the battery installation. Just as recent developments in automotive for closer integration between chassis and battery, it is relevant to explore applicability of such approaches for marine design.

Thesis work objective:

·  Explore feasibility and design concepts for a battery system that is integrated into the vessels structure.
·  The solution should meet the following high level objectives:
·  Allow flexible, scalable battery solution
·  Allow for serviceability
·  Ensure safety
·  Ease of installation

Finally, the proposed solution should be compared to existing solutions to analyze benefits and disadvantages and identify main challenges of structurally integrated batteries for marine applications.

Who are you?

We believe that you are studying any of the following areas:

·  Mechanical engineering
·  Maritime engineering
·  Electromechanical engineering
·  Industrial design
·  Product development

 

We expect that you are able to create mechanical design in CAD tools

 

It is beneficial but not required if you are experience with:

·  Electromobility
·  Battery systems
·  Marine vessel design

 

To be able to carry out the work at Penta it is expected that the you are fluent in English and is able to work at Penta premises in Gothenburg at least 2-3 days per week.
