Volvo Construction Equipment (VCE), a division of Volvo Group, is one of the world's largest manufacturers of construction equipment such as wheel loaders, haulers, excavators, road machinery, and compact machines. Our factory in Eskilstuna manufactures gearboxes and transmission axles components. Our production process incorporates comprehensive quality control measures at different stage. A critical component of these measures is the acoustic analysis of gear-mesh interactions during rotational operation. We aim to develop an advanced monitoring system to enhance the precision and objectivity of this auditory assessment.
Description of thesis work
· Develop a stand-alone device with vibrations sensors to support the evaluation of gear-induced acoustic emissions.
It involves:
· Literature review to understand the state of the art regarding designing a Data Acquisition (DAQ) system based on STM32 Micro Controller Unit.
· Literature review to understand the state of the art regarding vibration analysis for transmission components.
· Programming a Microcontroller development board for reading sensor data and process on the device.
· Transfer processed information from the vibrations signal to an online database using MQTT.
· Make the device rugged for industrial use.
· Test the device in different locations in production.
Some experience of a programming language such as C/C++ or Python is a must. Comfortable working hands-on with electronic components. This master thesis (30 ECTS) is suitable for two students that are completing their Master studies in Design and Product development / Mechanical Engineering / Automotive Engineering / Computer Science or equivalent.
