We have 2,550 suppliers in serial production that delivers 1.9 billion parts to Volvo Group Truck plants annually. We are a global team working with pride, breaking new ground, capturing the latest innovations, as well as supporting the brands and safeguarding Volvo Group synergies. We work together with speed and agility, in close collaboration with, and a strong mandate towards our suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Vehicle North America is the team in charge of the supplier base that delivers Cab, Rubber, and Chassis and Vehicle Dynamics components to build our Volvo and Mack trucks in North America. We own the responsibilities for these segments along the purchasing process (sourcing / projects / operations / risk mitigation / revenue service parts) and work in a strong collaboration with our Global Vehicle strategic line. The team is responsible to drive end to end Purchasing activities, while securing QDCFTSR (Quality, Delivery, Cost, Feature, Technology, Sustainability and Risk Management) targets.

We currently have an opening for a Manager Level position for the scope of Chassis Vehicle Dynamics (CVD) & 3rd Party Manufacturing (3PM) in North America (Brakes, Suspension, Steering, Wheels, Tires, Wheel Ends, and 3rd Party Manufacturing). This area is under a significant transformation in North America due to supporting all new projects in this region with the ambition to raise the bar for our Brands on all aspects of the QDCFTSR. This includes scouting and selecting new partners worldwide, capturing innovation that will bring value to our customers, and developing new ways of working both with partners and with our internal stakeholders. You will report to the Director of Vehicle Purchasing, North America, and will be based out of Greensboro, NC.

What You Will Be Doing

As the Head of CVD & 3PM Purchasing North America, you are responsible for strategic and operational activities within your area of scope pertaining to your region by implementing global methods. You are responsible to drive/manage day-to-day business and performance of your team of project and commodity buyers from a QDCFTSR standpoint. Your scope will include, but will not be limited to, managing supplier relationship, cross-functional collaboration, contributing to supplier negotiations, securing supplier capacity, mitigating impacts to our manufacturing facilities, and developing/implementing global segment strategies.

Your mission is to build a strong, cohesive team of purchasing specialists who drive business excellence and implement impactful changes in a dynamic and challenging industry. Success will require agility, a global mindset with local execution, and a deep appreciation for cross-functional collaboration in a global environment.

Your main responsibilities will include:
 

·  Be a member of the Vehicle – North America Purchasing Leadership team and be an active contributor to the team’s development
·  Lead, manage, and develop a high-performing team of purchasing professionals (commodity and project buyers)
·  Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to ensure cost-effective procurement while meeting quality and sustainability objectives
·  Provide coaching, mentoring and professional development opportunities to enhance team capabilities and support career growth
·  Build team cohesion and alignment with organizational goals by setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and recognizing achievements
·  Lead the team to drive cost reduction initiatives through value engineering, sourcing, supplier development, and market analysis
·  Identify and mitigate risks to secure a resilient supply network
·  Manage purchasing QDCFTSR deliverables to support the regional and global business objectives
·  For assigned responsibilities and commodities, ensure the efficient development and timely delivery of all project sourcing strategies and commodity plans
·  Contribute to the development and execution of segment strategies, while managing supplier selection, relationships, partnerships, and negotiations. Take responsibility for managing the budget and controlling operating expenses.
·  Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies and procedures
·  Collaborate with the global management team to ensure alignment on segment strategies and commodities
·  Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, supplier quality, operations, logistics, both brands Volvo/Mack, and project management teams to align purchasing activities with project timelines
·  Contribute to the development of the department’s purchasing business plan

What We Are Looking For

·  6+ years of strategic purchasing experience
·  2+ years of people leadership experience, either as a direct manager or as a leader of a cross-functional team
·  Automotive OEM or Tier 1 Supplier industry preferred, otherwise some form of heavy manufacturing
·  Strong professionalism, communication, and organizational skills, as this role involves managing high-profile / high-value suppliers
·  Ability to execute in a global matrix organization
·  Ability to analyze difficult situations, and acting quickly and directly
·  Works well with cross-functional stakeholders on risks, with opportunities and alternative solutions in mind
·  Promotion of diversity and fostering opportunities for personal/professional development
·  Able to build an effective team with a common objective, strong morale and spirit
·  Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering/Technology, Business Administration, or equivalent working experience
