POSITION PURPOSE: The Power Plant Control Room Operator is responsible for assisting in the operation and routine preventive/predictive maintenance of the power plant systems, including High Pressure water tube boilers, Stem driven turbine generators, steam and electric Chillers, Wastewater systems and other auxiliary equipment associated with a power plant. He or she will record operational data and report any abnormalities. Under general direction, the control room operator will operate, via a distributed control system, all plant equipment. He will direct floor operators in the startup, shutdown and casualty control operations as needed. These duties will be performed in a safe, efficient and reliable manner to ensure continuous utility supply to customers.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

·  Evaluates and maintains proper operation of all machinery. 
·  Follows and promotes standard and established practices, refers to operation and service manuals to evaluate and maintain proper operation of all machinery.
·  Operates equipment to meet the requirements of utility customers
·  Monitors and records pressures, temperatures, and fuel consumption on the operating equipment.
·  Identifies and informs appropriate individuals of symptoms requiring maintenance action.
·  Observe, record, and interpret indications from instrumentation and control systems.  Calculate, evaluate, and report findings.
·  Reads and interprets information and instructions on material data safety sheets.
·  Applies knowledge of hand and power tools and general repair knowledge to assist in the maintenance and repair of engines, boilers, compressors, pumps and all associated equipment.
·  Perform functional testing of plant systems and components.  Interpret acceptability of data in comparison with established standards or sound power plant practices. Performs water testing
·  May be required to obtain a certification to wear a full-face respirator
·  Performs and promotes work in a safe manner according to established safety procedures and reports or rectifies any unsafe conditions.
·  Displays willingness to work in a team environment and follow directions and instructions from members of management.
·  Must be present and ready to begin working at the designated time.
·  Must be available to work occasional scheduled or unscheduled overtime, as required.
·  Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts that include holidays, nights and weekends.
·  Must have ability to interface diplomatically with other employees and the public.
·  Perform housekeeping duties as required.
·  Conduct on-the-job and classroom training on occasion. Prepare lesson plans, handouts, visual aids, examinations, qualification standards, and other material related to employee training and development.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:

·  High school diploma or GED equivalent.
·  3 - 5 years’ experience in process related field such as chemical industry, refinery, heating, generation or any that would require a demonstrated aptitude for applying skills to an involved or complicated process.
·  1 - 3 years’ journeyman level experience in a power plant environment with boilers, chillers, pumps, compressors, cooling towers, and water treatment.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

·  Must possess or have the ability to obtain a certification to wear a full-face respirator.
·  Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals and drawings, and procedures.
·  Working knowledge of the maintenance of daily plant logs.
·  Familiar with basic Microsoft Office products.
·  Must have experience with sound safety practices using hand tools and power equipment related to job assignments.
·  Able to work rotating-shift assignments to support plant operations.
·  Ability to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communication.
·  Ability to lift heavy equipment and carry materials up and down stairs with the capacity of lifting 50 pounds.

Required Certification / Licenses / Training

·  Valid United States driver license.
·  Must possess or have the ability to obtain forklift certification.
