Job Description
   Position Purpose:    
 
The responsibility of the Operator is to operate the Jersey City Water Treatment Facility that includes plant operation for both water and sludge treatment processes. Responsibilities include controlling treatment plant equipment to ensure that plant flow meets demands and that the appropriate chemical feed rates are set at each flow change as determined by the Plant Management. Operations also include the sludge operation that involves the centrifuge and settling basin equipment.
 
The Operator must determine the scope and severity of problems, which would require the attention of supervision. Reports to immediate supervisor, and utilizing the work order management system, any unusual occurrence, action taken or repairs or adjustments that are needed.
 
    Primary Duties/Responsibilities:    
 
·  Demonstrate working knowledge of the water treatment process. 
·  Ensure all plant equipment is operating properly. 
·  Monitor and operate plant and system equipment using SCADA control. 
·  Interpret data trends and respond to alarms and event logs. 
·  Operate and monitor the distribution system, including mains, tanks, storage facilities, booster pumping stations, sources of supply, and pressure districts. 
·  Adjust chemical feed systems as determined by instrumentation feedback. 
·  Determine the scope and severity of problems requiring supervisory attention and report unusual occurrences or needed repairs to the supervisor immediately. 
·  Monitor and perform water quality control tests (e.g., pH, color, turbidity, temperature, chlorine residuals, algae sampling). 
·  Collect samples from various plant locations as directed. 
·  Maintain records of plant operations utilizing spreadsheets and logbooks; perform clerical duties related to plant operations. 
·  Handle incoming and outgoing telephone calls and refer them appropriately. 
·  Monitor plant security from the control room and ensure plant and grounds are secured at all times. 
·  Receive chemical deliveries, analyze incoming chemicals, and monitor delivery for safe operation. 
·  Cleaning and maintenance of facilities and equipment. 
·  Operator level maintenance and calibration of instrumentation equipment. 
·  Ensure safe access to all operational areas. 
·  Comply with all environmental compliance, health and safety standards as established by the company. 
Qualifications
   Education/Experience/Background:    
 
·  High school diploma or equivalency certificate required. 
 
    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:    
 
·  Above Average math skills. 
·  Knowledge of computers. 
·  Good verbal and written communication skills. 
·  Knowledge of SCADA systems and their operation. 
·  Knowledge and practical experience with cleaning and light maintenance tasks. 
 
    Required Certification/Licenses/Training:    
 
·  Must have a valid drivers license issued by a USA state or territory. 
·  Must obtain a T-1 Operators license within 3 years as per CBA. 
·  Black Seal - Boiler Operator License subject to management final approval and operational need. 
·  Ability to pass a entrance exam. 
 
    Physical Requirements:    
 
·  Shift varies: any combination of shifts must be accommodated; must be flexible to work 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 11:00 - 11:00 weekends including holidays. 
Additional Information
   Pay Rate:   $30.20 Per Hour.
