Job Description
Targeted Hourly Pay Range: Minimum of $30.00 to a maximum of $35.00

POSITION PURPOSE: Performs a variety of semi-skilled, skilled, technical, and administrative work in the planning, scheduling, maintenance of vehicles and equipment within Fleet Services.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
· Diagnoses and locates mechanical problems on fleet vehicles and equipment.
· Repairs brakes, engines, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air, exhaust, axle assemblies and related systems using a variety of hand, electric, air-driven tools, and diagnostic instruments.
· Performs cutting and welding in performance of body repair, touch up and related work.
· Performs routine and preventative maintenance, lubrication and minor adjustments on vehicles and related equipment. Promptly reports any operational problems with machines or equipment to Lead or Supervisor.
· Inspects vehicles and equipment for compliance with applicable policies, rules and regulations for road-worthiness and safety. Takes corrective action per procedure in assigned area. Investigates vehicle / equipment damage, completes forms, participates and completes remedial actions to prevent further occurrences within assigned deadlines.
· Performs all duties in compliance with Veolia Water safety policies and guidelines and makes others aware of potential hazards in the work area. Practices good housekeeping. Participates in cleaning of work areas machinery, tools and equipment in Fleet Services areas.
· Frequent contact with internal personnel in order to understand maintenance needs.
· Contact with vehicle and equipment suppliers to obtain repair and maintenance instructions.
SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES (INTERMITTENT, ON AN OCCASIONAL BASIS, ETC.)
· May assist with maintaining parts, spares and maintenance inventory.
· Participates in coverage for after hour’s emergency calls for Fleet Services as assigned by Lead Mechanic.
· Participates in snow and ice control program with the Public Works Department as needed on an emergency basis.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
· May assist with orienting or training new or less experienced personnel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Environment: Spends 100% of time in shop or field environment. Typically spends 25 – 35% of time exposed to outdoor and sometimes inclement weather. Company service vehicles are used as required. Travels 1 – 2 times per year for company provided training.
Possible Work Hazards: May be exposed to possible operations hazards including fumes, dust, toxic and caustic chemicals, noise, rotating machinery, high pressure and hot and cold temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical hazards.
Physical Demands: Amount of time spent – Standing 75%, Walking 25%. Requires close visual and hearing observation to detect non-conformance and equipment malfunction. Constantly uses hands to finger, handle or feel and frequently reaches with hands and arms. Works in various positions; works on ladders, and works with hands extended above and below head and body up to 40 minutes using hand and power tools weighing up to 15 pounds. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds (occasionally 60 pounds) distances of 10 feet. Occasional stooping, bending or kneeling and entering confined spaces.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background
· High school or GED with the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions) and be able to carry out verbal and written instructions.
· Specialized training in vehicle and equipment maintenance with knowledge and experience in the areas of automotive and truck mechanics, gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, valves, generators and welding and body repair.
· Entry level but some experience preferred in vehicle and equipment maintenance, Fleet Management or a related field. Experience in and exposure to repair and maintenance of the following: pickup trucks, one, two, five and ten-ton dump truck, snow plow, salt spreader and trailer equipped trucks preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
· Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
· Must demonstrate ability to accurately record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles and other equipment.
· Must have ability to safely operate motorized vehicles and construction-type equipment, drill press, bench press, grinder, band saw, electric charging systems testers, digital and computerized diagnostic instruments, hydraulic jacks and lifts, air tools, wrenches, drivers, wheel and tire replacement systems, air compressor, lubricants, greases, coolants and related fluid, cleaning equipment, portable radios, telephones, computers, copiers, printers and other equipment and devices related to Fleet Services activities.
· Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
· Must have ability to operate Computer Maintenance Management System (software).
· Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
· Must demonstrate proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), including respirators, gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc.).
· Must provide own hand tools used in the normal performance of the job and includes, but not limited to; wrenches, socket sets, drivers, hammers, chisels, storage cabinets and tool boxes. Replacement of hand tools due to damage or breakage in the normal performance of the job will be reimbursed after approval by the Plant Manager.
· Must be able to participate in afterhours emergency call-outs.
Required Certification / Licenses / Training
· Must possess a valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with tanker endorsement and a safe driving record.
· Employee Orientation, Departmental Operating Procedures, OSHA and Quality Training. Veolia equipment training.
· Contributes and participates in required and recommended safety programs and training sessions.
· Obtain and continue ASE certification in Master Automotive Technician or Master Medium / Heavy Duty Truck Technician within three years from date of hire.
· HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) Level I and II First Responder Certification. Work toward higher level water / wastewater treatment certification.
· Forklift Certification if required by site.
