Job Description
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for (but not limited to):
· Directs the development of maintenance strategies consistent with business requirements, objectives, and established financial goals.
· Leads a team of skilled mechanical, electrical, instrument and controls, and maintenance professionals providing 24-hour services for the plant.
· Develops overall maintenance schedules to maintain equipment availability and coordinate planned outages.
· Continually searches out and develops new technical improvements and business strategies for maintenance and reliability excellence.
· Represents a key stakeholder in overseeing plant warehousing and inventory management including spare parts and tools inventories.
· Manages the successful implementation utilization of the CMMS system as well as the Asset Management program.
· Works closely with management on site and in conjunction with Operations, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety departments, and senior staff to coordinate daily activities and long term maintenance planning.
Key Responsibilities:
· Responsible for the maintenance of the plant equipment and infrastructure. Works closely with Operations and Engineering functions to achieve optimum plant performance: develops strategies to maximize equipment reliability and efficiency while minimizing costs;
· Establishes maintenance schedules and plans including work orders, procedures, and cost control systems. Regularly prepares and reviews reports of maintenance activities;
· Continually improves the quality of work by motivating and empowering employees, implementing new technology, and revising procedures and processes to improve individual and team effectiveness. Directs maintenance training programs and conducts performance evaluations for maintenance personnel;
· Selects, develops, and supervises a quality-focused team of in-house professionals and evaluates the need for contract labor and services for executing repair and maintenance functions; provides instruction on duties to be performed, establishes good work practices and standards for quality of work, and inspects to ensure compliance. Writes specifications, negotiates contracts, and oversees and manages in-house and contract projects to ensure proper performance;
· Establishes and manages operating and capital budgets for the Maintenance Department. Assists and advises the Plant Manager in developing the annual budget. Monitors expenditures for labor, supplies, services, and equipment to ensure best value and compares variances to established financial goals;
· Provides leadership for implementation of safety and environmental programs. Ensures employee compliance with company safety and environmental policies and procedures. Directs work with highest regard for employee safety and plant reliability. Identifies opportunities to improve plant safety and to prevent accidents and permit violations;
· Monitors cross-department functions to facilitate and improve coordination of plant activities. Monitors the work order system to ensure responsiveness;
· Establishes, directs, and monitors periodic, predictive and preventive maintenance programs for the plant. Develops plant preventive maintenance program. Develops plant instrument calibration schedule. Develops lubrication schedule. Organizes plant outages;
· Conducts periodic evaluations of productivity and labor requirements and makes recommendations regarding staffing. Makes regular inspections of facilities;
· Manages operation and betterment of plant warehousing services and inventory management. Utilizes inventory control systems to effect positive budgetary impact, optimize plant efficiency, and maintain the integrity of emergency contingency planning. Orders spare parts, materials and tools supply necessary for plant maintenance;
· Works closely with senior staff in the development, implementation, and review of company policies, procedures, guidelines, and financial controls. Provides leadership and direction for implementation of company initiatives;
· Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Experience and Required Certifications:
· Class 2 Power Engineering would be considered an asset.
· Valid red seal trades certificate (electrical, millwright, etc.) and minimum five (years) maintenance supervision. Additionally, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or an Engineering Technology Diploma (Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation & Controls) would be an asset;
· Previous experience maintaining assets in large scale manufacturing or processing plant environments (strong asset)
· Familiarity with power plant operations;
· Experience with materials and inventory management;
· Experience with computerized maintenance management software is required.
· Experience building and maintaining a computerized preventative maintenance management system.
· Multi-disciplinary in-depth knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, controls, mechanical, and piping systems is required;
· Must show evidence of solid leadership ability with a willingness to serve as an active team member ;
· Must be able to demonstrate strong supervisory capability and ability to develop and manage a team effectively within a changing environment;
· Must have the ability to develop a budget, project costs and provide cost/benefit analysis; have experience in labor relations, working in both union and non-union environments, and with the trades;
· Must have a commitment to customer service/satisfaction and workplace excellence; Ability to remain flexible, problem-solve effectively, and apply fair and consistent conflict resolution skills; High degree of professionalism ; Ability to take and give direction, and work independently as well as a member of a team; Detail oriented; Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively;
· An entrepreneurial, results-oriented attitude, a willingness to acquire new skills and utilize technology to streamline processes, a desire to improve reliability and equipment output and longevity, and the ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve creatively, are essential;
· Solid computer skills: proficiency with database, spreadsheet, email, and word processing software required; Microsoft Office suite of products and Windows operating systems is preferred.
Work Environment:
Physical Requirements
· Must be able to work, occasionally for prolonged periods, in extremes of hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather conditions.
· Must be able to tolerate dust and other airborne particles and work around cleaning products and other materials such as biomass, diesel and lube oils. Under certain conditions while working in the plant, may be required to wear a respirator.
· Required to wear safety equipment and clothing where appropriate.
· Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, and high-lifts, and in confined spaces.
Travel Requirements
Periodic travel to the other sites may be required.
Emergency Status Designation
Critical - Must be able to serve rotational 24 hour emergency on-call if required by site.
Working Hours
Permanant position, offered on a full time basis, with a schedule from Monday to Friday.
Incumbent must show flexibility in time of emergency or higher production.
