Job Description

The EHS Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, completion of industrial hygiene field
investigations, identifying monitoring methods and media, providing front-line support of the
implementation and sustainment of corporate HSE systems, tools, and applications, conducting noise
dosimetry sampling, and completing area noise surveys, assisting with indoor air quality investigations,
operating, and maintaining field testing equipment, and compiling data from field investigations. This
role proactively demonstrates HSE technical and management system competencies that bring value to
the organization by proactively recommending and assisting sites with pragmatic HSE solutions. 

Key Characteristics

·  Implement, maintain and audit EHS programs and procedures to ensure company compliance
·  Coordinate all aspects of EHS (injury investigation/reduction, training completion, metrics verification/tracking, etc.) for a site
·  Collaborate and coach site team members to create a culture where inclusion and diversity are valued
·  Creates, writes and reviews JSA’s and RA. Educates employees on both the JSA and RA and procedures
·  Perform compliance audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulation
·  Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal requirements for Occupational Health and Safety

Duties & Responsibilities

·  Conducts safety orientation
·  Communicates EHS expectations effectively through leveraging technical and business proficiency with client stakeholders, sub-contractors and internal project team members
·  Creates and conduct required and requested safety training at assigned Service Centers
·  Leads Veolia safety initiatives at assigned Service Centers
·  In case of emergencies, this individual interfaces with regulatory and public sector EHS agencies and authorities, acting as a liaison between plant management and government agencies on regulatory matters
·  Administers site-specific EHS targets
·  Assures compliance with OSHA regulatory standards which include but are not limited to industrial hygiene, confined space entry, fall protection, machine guarding and contractor safety
·  Responsible for emergency response planning and incident investigation and reporting
·  Communicates effectively with all employees and management and about EHS matters
·  Participates in administrative staff meetings

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

·  Ability to handle multiple shifting demands with professionalism and good judgement
·  while adapting to dynamic business & industry situations
·  Experience with root cause analysis methods (Apollo, FMEA, Bowtie, Fishbone, Tap Root, etc.)
·  Demonstrated EHS risk recognition and auditing skills
·  Ability to organize and prioritize tasks autonomously (or ask for support)
·  Ability to build and maintain a trusting EHS culture where concerns can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on results and problem solving
·  Knowledge of EHS issues including regulations, air permitting, wastewater permitting and treatment, and hazardous waste
·  Strong analytical skills including advanced root cause determination skills

Education & Experience

·  Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or another related field from an accredited college or university
·  Minimum of 3-5 years of experience with exposure to several EHS areas in a manufacturing/industrial environment
·  Certification in related subjects (CHMM, CSP, CIH, QISP, etc)

Work Conditions

·  Ability and willingness to perform physical duties such as lifting, climbing, working at elevated heights, and manual dexterity
·  Ability and willingness to work confined space entry
·  Ability and willingness to work in range of environments to include but not limited to industrial
·  Ability and willingness for on call status for emergency response
·  Ability and willingness to travel both sites as needed (Baytown and Pasadena)
