Job Summary
The individual will be responsible for identifying potential instances of market abuse, notably insider dealing and market manipulation using an automated alerts programme using SMARTS and Actimize supported by manual and desk based reviews. The aim is to ensure that internal policies and regulatory requirements are complied with and safeguarding UBS's reputation against legal and regulatory risks.
The Corporate Center ensures that our business divisions operate as a coherent and effective whole by providing and managing support and control functions for the business divisions and the Group including risk management and control (including compliance), finance and legal. It also provides all logistics and support functions including operations, information technology, human resources, corporate development, regulatory relations and strategic initiatives, communications and branding, corporate real estate and administrative services, procurement, offshoring and treasury services such as funding, balance sheet and capital management.
Description of team
The team uses SMARTS and Actimize to identify instances of potential market abuse. This is supported by manual and desk based routines. The team collaborates with many internal and external parties such as the business, regulatory investigations to raise escalations and surveillance vendors to enhance monitoring and expand into new product classes and markets. The team stays up to date with relevant regulatory requirements such as MIFID II, MAR, ESMA guidelines and financial market news which influence surveillance activity and development.
Responsibilities
• Performing electronic transaction surveillance of the FICC, Equities & ETD and other trading businesses, Control Room and Personal Account Dealing using established alerts programmes within Actimize and SMARTS;
• Investigating and closing out daily alerts thoroughly in a timely manner, and ensuring significant issues identified are fully investigated and promptly escalated where necessary; This includes preparing a comprehensive analysis/report of issues which will stand up to scrutiny by internal management and the regulators;
• Undertake desk based monitoring on behalf of key stakeholders of the Central Compliance function (e.g. Investment Bank – Equities, FICC and IBD as well as Wealth Management and Asset Management), distilling issues and preparing reports for escalating issues;
• Enhancing existing routines and continuously developing the monitoring programme to address changing regulatory expectations and updating supporting documentation as required;
• Attending and contributing to compliance product team meetings and industry forums where relevant.
Requirements
• Proven experience within Monitoring and Surveillance environment is beneficial. Experience of SMARTS and Actimize surveillance systems would be advantageous.
• Relevant experience in a front office role, middle or back office support with working understanding of business areas, systems and products would be helpful.
• Understanding of the regulatory environment relating to market abuse and the current issues/challenges faced is a pre-requisite.
• Genuine interest in financial markets and market abuse regulation is strongly desired as is the desire to learn.
• The ability to be flexible and to manage a demanding workload working independently and as part of a team is required as there is scope for more than trade surveillance in this role.
