Senior Technical Artist - Tools/Pipeline [Snowdrop]
SWEDEN IT development
Job description
Massive Entertainment is a world-leading AAA studio located in Malmö, Sweden and part of the Ubisoft family. We’re a multinational team of more than 750 passionate and highly skilled people from 50+ different countries. Our studio’s goal has always been – and still is – to craft the finest gaming experiences for all players.
At Massive, you get to do what you love most while bringing your own experience to our ongoing projects, like Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Star Wars Outlaws. We're also developing new tech here, such as our in-house engine Snowdrop, and Ubisoft Connect - Ubisoft's digital ecosystem and distribution platform.
Snowdrop is a powerful game engine that enables Ubisoft content creators to set their creative minds free. Fast and flexible, Snowdrop gives developers innovative tools designed from the ground up for creating the unknown. Snowdrop provides the perfect canvas for game developers to paint the games of the future.
We are seeking a Technical Artist to join our Snowdrop DCC and Pipeline tools team. In this role you will be working on the Snowdrop content pipeline team, aiming to accelerate the integration of art and animation content into the game with higher quality and better user experience. The Snowdrop DCC and Pipeline tools team primarily creates the framework for all DCC integrations and collaborates closely with Technical Artists and Animators in the productions across Ubisoft to meet their needs. You will frequently interact with other tech artists, tech level designers, tech animators and programmers. In other companies or industries, this position might be called Pipeline TD or Tools Developer.
We're offering a permanent position in Malmö, Sweden, with the flexibility to work partially from home (up to two days a week) under our Flexible Workplace Policy. Please apply using English, our company's primary language.
What you'll do
· Develop and maintain production pipeline tools, primarily in Python
· Establish best practices for code maintenance, data structures and CICD pipelines
· Enhance Snowdrop processes
· Provide day-to-day Art and Tech team support
· Document development and updates as necessary
· Create samples and examples in Snowdrop engine and/or DCCs
· Collaborate with production teams to improve and automate workflows
· Manage and maintain the art-specific tools based on user feedback
What you'll bring
You are passionate about writing tools, developing technical solutions and helping to create the best possible games. You are open to new ideas and constantly strive to advance your work to the highest level by being proactive and self-motivated. As a Technical Artist, you are inspired by innovative technology and clever solutions. You are constantly on the lookout for ways to enhance the visual quality, the tech behind it or the workflow to achieve it. Excellent communication skills are essential for knowledge-sharing with your team and your stakeholders. You might have a combination of classical or 3D art training with good technical knowledge and a focus on games. You are interested in engine development and want to work on improving workflows and pipelines for multiple teams.
Besides the above we’re looking for someone aligned with our core values and who has some of the following skills and experience:
· Proficiency in Python programming, including experience with larger code bases and packaging
· Experience with tool development for DCCs for modelling, procedural content creation and/or texture creation. (We utilize Substance Painter, Substance Designer, Blender, 3Ds Max, Maya, Motionbuilder, and Photoshop)
· Knowledge of art asset optimization techniques
· Solid game engine knowledge and experience (proprietary and/or Unreal or Unity)
What We Might Discuss During the Interview
· Your thoughts on setting up an asset pipeline (generic or for a specific asset type)
· Distributing tools to artists and animators in production
· Resolving conflicting needs of different productions using the same tools
· Experience developing with Python, including type hints, packaging, data structures
· Opinions on USD and other open standards for asset pipelines
· Usage of source control, CICD and storage systems (such as GitHub/GitLab, Perforce, Artifactory, etc.)
