Job description

SEN Document Officer

Location: Braintree, Essex
Salary: £20,000pa rising to £25,000pa after one year, subject to successful completion of training. There are also significant promotion prospects.
Contract: Full time, permanent.

The company:

Our client is the largest Special Educational Needs (SEN) Writing Service in the UK, providing document drafting services to a large number of Local Authorities in every region of England.

Over the past five years the business has doubled in size and we continue to grow and develop. We have a large team of freelance writers, supported by a small and friendly office team based in Braintree, which we are looking to expand to keep up with rapidly increasing demand.

The work can be high pressured, but this is balanced by a friendly and supportive team spirit. Everyone is committed to the end result of the work - facilitating Local Authorities to provide vital support for children with difficulties. Our objective is to deliver the service with a high degree of professionalism, but the general atmosphere of the office is informal and relaxed, with a good level of flexibility.

The role:

In your initial months you will receive on-the-job training in drafting Education, Health and Care plans; this will allow you to develop your existing writing skills and gain an in-depth knowledge of Special Educational Needs and the statutory assessment process. As your skills develop you will start to take on responsibility for quality assuring other writers’ work and training new writers.

Other initial training includes Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults, Data Protection and Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and Outlook).

As we are a small office and like our staff to be multi-skilled, candidates with initiative will find that they start to take on a variety of different roles. All staff need to be able to perform the vital admin processes in order to provide cover where necessary, and there may be a variety of other business support/admin tasks to perform. However, admin will account for a small proportion of your time in general.

In addition, there is ample opportunity to quickly become involved and learn skills in areas such as Human Resources, Financial Management, Sales/Marketing, Customer Relations and Operations Management, with the possibility of subsequently taking on management responsibilities.

This role should be equally attractive to those who would like opportunities to develop valuable skills for other career areas and to those who would be interested in building a long term career within the company.

The candidate:

This is a genuine entry level job, so we do not require any specific experience and we provide all training.

However, the ideal candidate will:

• Have excellent professional writing skills and general IT competency
• Be able to learn quickly and be resourceful
• Be educated to A level standard, preferably to undergraduate level
• Have a high level of self-organisation and ability to work to deadlines
• Have excellent communication and team working skills
• Have a high level of commitment and strong work ethic

If you feel you have the skills and experience required for the role then apply now!
