Job Description

Responsible for the reporting and analysis of key operational events affecting the business;
·  Development of a culture of speaking up and operational risk management through effective communication and change management.
·  Make the trading operations more efficient by analyzing and fixing operational issues, limit the capital buffer required to protect from operational risks.
·  Manages one part time analyst in the team
·  Updating Operational Risk Policy to ensure that the policy reflect best practice.
·  Aggregating and analysing risk events reported by the business.
·  Performing forensic and root cause analyses on identified risk events to recommend improvements to prevent these risk events from re-occurring in future.
·  Assisting the principal Risk Owners with the identification of key risk indicators in their operation.
·  Monitoring the implementation of action plans.
·  Analysing identified trends in the key risk indicators reported to Management.
·  Prepare reports to the Business, Risk Committee, Management and Compliance.
·  Considering and suggesting methods to improve risk analysis and reporting.
·  Driving the development of systems to improve event capture analysis and action follow up.
·  Utilising mathematical and statistical knowledge to assist with the building of risk models in support of Operational Risk reporting and analysis. Review and contribute to developments in the industry and academia in the field of operational risks. Feed these developments back to the companies operational risk framework.

Candidate profile

Educated to degree level – a numerical discipline is an advantage – or higher;
·  Minimum 4 years of experience in physical commodity trading;
·  Minimum of 2 years in a risk control position;
·  High levels of analytical and information technology skills;
·  Solid communication skills.
·  Ability to influence and conduct change.
·  Ability to work autonomously and on one’s own initiative.
·  Good knowledge of the energy industry.

Context and environment

The position holder works in the Risk Control department but interacts with all the trading organization. The Global Risk Control team consists of around 20 people (including Supervisor and Managers).  The team work across product types including natural gas, natural gas liquids, shale gas, liquefied natural gas, power, emissions, and dry bulk products and locations Houston, Geneva, Paris and Singapore.
The fast paced trading environment requires the jobholder to be able to work both autonomously and within a team. The position requires daily interaction with other departments within the organization. Industry and contractual deadlines to be respected.  Reconciliation of discrepancies and resolution of counterpart issues requires jobholder to be able to seek out information necessary for problem solving.Reporting and monitoring obligations per the Dodd-Frank Act, Sarbanes-Oxley Act, European REMIT and EMIR   and to comply with other rules & regulations require diligence and attention to detail.
