Intern Requirement for Metal Organic Framework (MOF) materials in TRTF

Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are made by linking inorganic and organic units by strong bonds . The flexibility with which the constituents’ geometry, size, and functionality can be varied has led to more than 90,000 different MOFs being reported and studied for different applications. The organic units are organic carboxylates (and other similar negatively charged molecules), which, when linked to metal-containing units, yield  crystalline MOF structures with a typical porosity of greater than 50% of the MOF crystal volume. The surface area values of such MOFs typically range from 1000 to 10,000 m 2 /g, thus exceeding those of traditional porous materials such as zeolites and carbons. These aspects have made MOFs ideal candidates for storage of fuels (hydrogen and methane), CO 2 capture, and catalysis applications, to mention a few.

We intend to study MOFs for CO 2 capture and would like to hire an Intern for 6 months starting from January 2021 in Total Research & Technology Feluy (TRTF), Belgium to work on synthesis of MOFs.

Internship Duration: 4 th January 2021 – 02 nd July 2021

The work at TRTF will include:
·  Synthesis of the 3 materials at the gram level bases on formulas from literature
·  Study and implementation of the scale up for one material as high as possible
·  Study and implementation of the shaping of one material: literature review to look at best way to do that (use clay, alumina or a polymer as binder….)
·  If possible (if rest of work goes fast) try some functionalization of the material  
The materials will be characterized in TRTF and PERL (Research Centre of Total in France) to confirm the synthesis of desired structure and to evaluate the performance for CO 2 capture.

Required:
·  Bachelors/Master’s student in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering. Knowledge of organometallic chemistry.
·  Experience working in a laboratory with chemicals and equipments.  
Preferred:
·  Experience in materials synthesis and characterization.
