Job Description
The Energy Trading Analyst position’s primary aim will be:
· To assist in understanding the markets (gas, electricity emissions and coal) in terms of fundamentals, finding ways to model their dynamics and dealing with complex issues requiring a quantitative approach (pricing and hedging of complex products)
· To provide trading, management and TOTAL Group affiliates with qualitative analysis and reports of the energy markets, covering gas, electricity, coal and emissions markets, focusing mostly on the Australian electricity and carbon markets.
· Develop and execute Total Gas & Power Asia's Australian financial Electricity and Renewable/Emissions trading strategies under the direction of the Power Trading Manager. Analysis:
· Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the Australian and Asia Pacific Energy Markets
· Develop own models and analytical tools and source the required Australian data and information independently
· Provide market reports to traders & management, as well as to market participants; create and update presentations on market-related topics
· Understand the driving forces on the energy markets and provide expert knowledge and experience to the trading team; Produce trading recommendations and price forecasts
· Provide assistance to group affiliates and customers as required
Energy Trading:
· Provide the TOTAL Group with market access and trading services in line with TGP’s contractual arrangements
· Formulate trading ideas and execute trades with a view to generate positive P&L for the group under the direction of the Power Trading Manager
· Evaluate and understand the risk associated with trading positions, and operate within the delegated trading limits

TGPA participates and supports Total Gas & Power’s efforts in developing its energy trading network of Asian and Australian counterparts and increasing market share, identifying new opportunities and complementing the expansion of Total Gas & Power’s trading portfolio.
Candidate profile
· At least 4 years experience in the Australian electricity or gas market environment – Electricity preferable
· University educated to degree level
· The position requires autonomy, the ability to be a self starter, be objective, to be resourceful and well organized
· The applicant should be able to explain complex issues and present them in a clear and concise manner
· Fluent in English

Context and environment
· Total Gas & Power’s role within the TOTAL Group is to commercialise the non-committed gas, power, and petcoke/sulphur production of the upstream affiliates, supply the gas and power to marketing affiliates, and take speculative positions in the gas, power and emissions markets, both in Europe, US and now in Australia. Total Gas & Power Asia’s activities are relatively new with the Australian Trading licence being granted in April 2013 and service contracts currently existing with Group affiliates. The position will be the second TGP employee focused on the Australian markets, joining the Power Trading Manager.
· The TOTAL group currently has an ambition to increase renewably sourced electricity production capacity to five gigawatts within five years, leveraging the expertise of affiliates Total Solar, SunPower and Total Eren . Australia is very much is part of this expansion.
