Job Description

Start date : September / October 2020

The Trading and Shipping department employs 710 people of 46 nationalities with operations in more then 120 countries. Our activities include: 7 million b/d physical traded, 32 million b/d derivatives traded, 3000 sea voyages a year, 135 million mt crude oil transported.

The jobholder will be active within the Barge chartering department of T&S Trading Operations, ensuring organization of transport by barge for refined products (Distillates, Lights, Fuel, Biofuel, Petchem) in Europe (mainly ARA and Rhine region)

Barge spot charters,time charters & COA at the end of 2019: 1’700 charters per year / 6 million mt of cargo transported.
The associated spending to the 2019 charters was 49 M$ freight + 14 M$ demurrage
Barge Vetting demands in 2018 by T&S Ops in Europe : 3’700 (Charter +Title +Terminal risks)   

The activities will be two-fold:

1/ Assist the barge charterers in their daily tasks to gain understanding about the challenges of the job:
- Understand TOTSA's product flows and through discussion with traders and operators, identify their needs for barges
- Discuss, negotiate and finalize with barges owners spot charters, COA's and Time Charters
- Understand the mechanisms driving the barge market in Europe
- Focus on HSE aspects, such as vetting, ADN regulation, etc.

2/ Creation of a model to optimize TOTSA's barge fleet on short and medium term
- Analyze TOTSA's product flows
- Build an economic model to optimize TOTSA's barge fleet size and composition
- Modelize the optimal use of the fleet by associating the most economical barge to each cargo.

Accountabilities :
1/ Assist the barge charterers in creating value by proactively delivering safe and effective barge logistics whilst focusing on overall trading optimization and long-term performance of the actual chartering.
2/ Delivering a model to optimize TOTSA's barge fleet on the short and medium term.

Candidate profile

·  Last year of Master degree in Economics or Engineering or Marine transportation or Business School
·  You have a strong interest in commodities trading / shipping industries
·  You have prior experience in one of these areas:  market analysis, trading operations, risk or have gained some experience in logistic optimization or economic model development
·  Fluent in English and French // proficiency in Excel and PowerBi
·  Flexible, goal oriented, fast adapting, good communicator
·  internship must be covered by a tripartite agreement 
·  Due to restrictions applied to work permits in Switzerland we can only accept applications from Swiss or EU citizens.

Context and environment

The jobholder will be working in the fast paced environment of international oil trading. The barge chartering team is pro-active in proposing efficient barge transportation for TOTSA's cargoes and is reactive in adapting to ever changing market conditions.
Continuous interaction both internally with different departments (such as trading, operations, invoicing, legal department, HSE, credit, compliance) and externally with barge owners, is part of the daily job.
