oMedia development - for the past 30 years we have been training journalists and media professional, improving the standards of journalism around the world. We also build platforms for independent journalism like Aswat Masriya, an independent and unbiased political news website launched in Egypt in 2011.

The position

We are seeking a high-energy, motivated reporter with excellent news judgment, strong writing skills, and preferably multi-media skills to produce stories on aid, development, women's rights, climate change, LGBT, and other humanitarian issues from across West Africa. You will be based in Senegal and will work with the Thomson Reuters Foundation's award-winning global news team to produce unique stories that have impact and bring under-reported human rights issues to light.

The position requires a proven track record in innovative journalism and a desire to make a real difference on humanitarian issues. French is required.

Responsibilities:

oRun the Foundation's file from West Africa with a balance of spot news, exclusive news angles on topical stories, and more insightful stories

oWork independently on stories and also with other reporters, the Foundation multi-media team, and freelancers on unique long and short term projects

oHelp develop new ways to present and distribute Foundation stories online and via social media for maximum impact

oDevelop and work with sources across West Africa to produce unique content

oOther duties as assigned

Desired profile


Skills:

oAt least 3 years journalism experience, including a proven track record of exclusive stories

oStrong writer, able to meet deadlines and work under well pressure

oHighly organised, self starter and strong team player

Inquisitive, passionate about news and strong interest in human rights and development policy

oFrench is required and other languages are an advantage

oExperience building social media followings preferred

oMulti-media skills in photography, audio and video production a plus

oUniversity degree
