Practical Law is a market leading online service which provides practical legal know-how, current awareness and workflow tools which are trusted and used by lawyers worldwide. High quality legal know-how and information services can assist lawyers in creating greater productivity in the way in which they conduct their businesses. Practical Law changes the way lawyers work, saving hours of research and drafting time creating those efficiencies.

We are looking to fill a full time role of Copy Editor to work with the newly established Practical Law Australia team in our Sydney (Pyrmont) office. This role will have two key areas of responsibilities:

Editing to Practical Law Style all documents prepared by our team of in house lawyer / writers. Copy editors bring a fresh perspective on the structure, searchability and usability of texts and need to communicate and coach writers in the way they provide feedback. They also ensure that documents links function online as expected and perform other technical steps as required.
We are building new editorial tools for how our documents are created, stored and published to online. The copy editor will have a key role in testing these tools on behalf of the team as end users.

Desired profile

Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years editorial experience and have a demonstrated capability with problem solving and trouble shooting computer systems. A law degree would be an advantage but is not essential.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate the following skills:

· An eye for detail and excellent proof-reading skills.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills. A background in plain legal drafting and language would be beneficial.
· An aptitude for problem-solving, especially technology related problems and for communicating with technology colleagues.
· An ability to prioritise and schedule work to meet strict deadlines while dealing with multiple assignments in a high volume work environment.
· Strong word processing skills, effective email management and proven track record for sharing & storing documents for a team environment.
