We are looking to recruit an analyst to be based in London, as part of the team covering the base metals markets.

Overview:




The analyst will report to the Manager of Base Metals Mining. The role will primarily focus on fundamental research into the base metals markets.

Responsibilities:

Analysing macro and micro economic metals data; analysing and modelling industry trends; preparing regular regional and/or sector commodity market commentary; fundamental, sector and regional research. The work will also include maintenance of some of the existing data suites, while contributing written, graphical and numerical work to the range of GFMS' metals research products. This is a pro-active team and the ideal candidate will have a flair for innovation and be prepared also to work with various departments in the Commodities Research & Forecasts Division in order to grow new ideas and expand the scope of existing products. Externally, continue to build the company brand by maintaining strong relationships with financial press and fund clients while also focusing on growing new relationships, by adding value and commentary to company data.

Desired profile


Education


Highly numerate graduate at least to Bachelors' degree level (or equivalent) preferably in Economics / Statistics / Finance

Skills and experience


Excellent analytical and quantitative skills; strong research and communication skills; strong knowledge/interest in the commodities space; confident, resourceful self-starter, plus a mind geared to rigorous attention to detail.

Preferred skills and experience


Extensive excel experience; commodities knowledge or expertise; knowledge of statistical techniques and a logical approach to data manipulation and putting information into context would be highly advantageous.
