Job description
THE smARTest PROJECT is a social art enterprise based in London that supports talented Haitian artists (though expanding rapidly to international artists) to live from their art and implement local art projects that benefits children and disadvantaged communities. The organization curates pop-up exhibitions and promotes the convergence of Inspirational Arts.
THE smARTest PROJECT is looking for Assistant Curator Intern
Role
Your role is to develop opportunities and co-curate exhibitions
Key deliverables
- List potential venues and actors to partner with, in or beyond the art sector, and build and/or maintain collaboration links to submit and/or organise solo, collective and mixed exhibitions
- Support the set-up of the exhibitions
- Find temporary or permanent exhibition premises
- Launch and manage call for artists
- Co-develop the communication strategy and writing content of each exhibition
- Contribute to the fundraising applications for the exhibitions
- Develop applications for residencies, art competition
- Coordinate the animation art project
- Link and maintain relationships with artists and the art sector partners
Requirements:
- Ensure positive and collaborative relationships with the team, the artists, the partners and the clients
- Ensure delivery of consistent brand messaging and vision through all exhibitions
- Actively engage in promoting and marketing the brand and the products
- Identify issues that could potentially damage the organisation’s reputation and recommend actions to mitigate this risk
- Take initiatives and show independency
Desired profile
Essential skills and knowledge
- Have qualifications or experience in curating exhibitions
- Have qualifications or experience in working in the London art sector
- Ability to develop ideas-driven exhibition program
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Excellent communications skills, including written and spoken
- Experience with marketing and communications, including developing web content and producing materials
- Fluent in English
- Be independent and creative with the ability to propose new development for the organisation
- Have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Have strong professional ethics, discretion and confidentiality, and sound judgement
