Job description

he Discoveries Of is a fast-growing online travel magazine. It’s the go-to resource for travellers with a sense of adventure. We showcase hand-picked destinations alongside unique experiences ranging from restaurant guides to adventure travelogues.

We started in early 2016 with one goal: to make travel interesting again. It’s lovely looking at endless pictures of places, but it’s almost always more exciting actually being there. We want to inspire people to discover new places, eat new foods and go on unforgettable adventures.

We are looking for two part-time travel-obsessed digital interns to work on the site. You need to be bright, with your own unique style and a wealth of ideas to bring to the team. You’ll be doing everything, from writing content to sourcing images and running social media accounts so need to be responsible and comfortable with working at a fast pace.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate an excellent standard of written work. Previous formal writing experience is desirable but not essential.

These positions are remote and hours are flexible but you need to be available for regular catch up calls and virtual meetings. There’s also some scope for you to travel for the position, dependent on performance and availability.

Initially, we’re looking for around 20 hours per week from each intern, though this is flexible - there is potential for these to become permanent roles dependent on performance.

Key responsibilities:
To assist and support the editor with day-to-day tasks.
Keeping on top of travel news to be published on our social channels.
Posting on TDO’s social channels (this may include some rare weekend work with advance notice).
Generating ideas for features and social media.
Researching and writing features.
Sourcing appropriate images to accompany features.
Researching contacts and potential outreach.
Compiling data.
Fact checking and proofreading copy.
Planning live video broadcasts and stories.

Key Skills and Experience:

Passionate about travel.
Organised, hardworking, friendly, flexible and enthusiastic.
Excellent attention to detail.
Good ability to research subjects in detail.
Performs well under pressure and works to a high standard.
Quick thinking and problem-solving skills.
Works well in a team.
Self-motivated - this is essential as you will be responsible for ensuring you are managing your time effectively and fulfilling the requirements of the role.
Good communication skills.
Enthusiastic.

To apply, email your CV and a cover letter explaining why you're the best person for this role. You should also send links or attachments with two written examples of your work.
