DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS:

Position Overview:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Technician must ensure required analyses are performed accurately, in a timely manner and consistent with ISO 17025 and TCCQS requirements and good laboratory practices. He/she must participate in ASL monitoring programs, investigations and analyses for Operations support and/or Innovations support and also participate in ASL quality, safety and housekeeping programs.

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Job Functions:
• Prepare/analyse reagents and samples (e.g. Sweeteners, water, syrup and beverages).
• Perform instrumental/physical/micro/CO2 and/or sensorial analyses.
• Record/interpret analysis results correctly, with respect to method performance criteria, product specifications, legislation and product labelling.
• Planning of work schedule making optimal use of time (e.g. conduct several experiments simultaneously, running experiments overnight, etc.)
• Ensure analytical methods are applied in complete correspondence with SOP’s; record potential deviations and interpret their impact on the final results; execute corrective actions when appropriate; .
• Proficient in all experimental techniques relevant to job performance.
• Ensure equipment is operated according to quality and safety requirements, TCCQS requirements, SOPs and ISO 17025 requirements
• Ensure complete traceability of results towards samples and requests on the one hand and towards standards and reagents on the other hand.
• Competent in the use of technical and laboratory software applications necessary to perform the job.
• Communicate effectively with line manager.
• Communicate effectively with clients in relation to test planning, the interpretation of results or early warnings of breaches.

• Possesses understanding of the basic principles of chemistry; improves knowledge of Chemistry through independent study of the literature, participation in research group meetings, seminars and by discussions with other chemists
• Familiarizes with supervisor-recommended technical literature.
• Generally knowledgeable in Wet Chemistry, Chromatography and Microbiology/PCR.
• In-depth knowledge in the use of instrumentation for quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses; In-depth knowledge on specific areas of analytical instrumentation and application.
• Knowledge/application of Good Lab Practices
• Computer application proficiency

• Accurate, timely production of quality data.
• In depth understanding and knowledge of assigned analytical, microbiological and/or sensory procedures (including e.g. the interpretation of data, analytical chromatograms or microbiological identification results).
• Exhibit good laboratory practice, follow safety and housekeeping procedures.
• Conformance to TCCQS and ISO17025 requirements, confirmed by audit.
• Effective Management Reporting.
• Proper Equipment Utilization, Maintenance and Follow-up.

RELATED JOB REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS:

Laboratory experience for at least 2 years (analytical chemistry or pharmaceutical experience preferred), ideally with LC and/or GC and/or Mass Spectrometry experience.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ideally a Bachelors degree/equivalent in Chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline preferred with additional related work experience either in advanced GC/LC/ICP and Mass Spectrometry as well as Wet Chemistry will also be considered.

ANALYSIS:

The following are examples of problem solving performed by chemists, each requires developing new approaches:
• Identifying test data errors and discrepancies sources and taking appropriate action
• Identifying source of equipment malfunctions and taking appropriate action
• Addressing immediate resource allocation inadequacies by taking on additional responsibilities
• Identifying potential new technologies and helping assess their suitability
• Scheduling cross-training activities to ensure effectiveness and timeliness
• Performing root cause analysis to correct a quality issue

JUDGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING:

• Provide input (recommendations) on instrument purchases
• Have the primary responsibility (authority) for
 - Scheduling assigned analyses and related activities
 - Auditing data and assuring its validity
 - Reporting data
 - Maintaining related supply inventories
 - Ensuring personal and environmental safety

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Laboratory environment. Use of gases under safe conditions. Use of chemicals and standards under good laboratory practices.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Less than 5% of travel is expected in this position.
