As the Trainee Technical Publications Illustrator/Author based in Crawley, you will develop effective skills within the technical publications discipline with an emphasis on graphic illustration. This will include liaison within the Computer aided Design (CAD) environment to glean the appropriate design information. The Technical Publications discipline is part of the Through Life Support Engineering (TLSE) department, you will take the role forward and work with advance technology, dealing initially with a lot of 2D graphics but developing the role into 3D graphics going forward. With the relevant training we see the role directly supporting programmes.
Key responsibilities
· Gain knowledge of engineering subjects; electronic, mechanical and software engineering
· Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
· Gain knowledge and hence be able use technical publications software packages
· Learn to interpret engineering explanations/language to generate end user publications
· Learn to verify maintenance and operating procedures by assessing on hardware and software equipment
· Be required to learn and understand the purpose of TLSE with other TLSE functions and the main engineering function
· Gain knowledge and hence be able to generate illustrations using graphic packages
· Gain knowledge and hence be able to write in a manner appropriate to the level of skill, experience and technical understanding of the users and maintainers of the equipment
· Gain knowledge of the different standards and output formats for current and future publications with an emphasis on Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETP)
· Learn and maintain knowledge of current industry standards for Technical Publications.
Skills, qualifications and experience
· GCSE or ‘A' Levels with good results in Maths, English and Science (or equivalent)
· IT Literate & conversant with Microsoft Office Toolset
· Essential to have proven interest in technical illustrating, animation and 3D modelling. Preferably with experience of Computer-aided design (CAD) or working towards.
