Thales Glasgow designs a range of state-of-the-art Optronics solutions for some of the most technically advanced defence and security platforms for land, sea and air.

We're seeking talented Design Engineers, who can apply their knowledge and skills in an innovative optical engineering design role. We have built up a team passionate about developing products for a safer world and we're now looking for like-minded, engineers to join us.

Key responsibilities :

· Design and analysis of optical systems
· Optical engineering support to development and integration projects
· Support existing products and new product development
· Regularly feedback on progress to multiple project teams

You will be involved in all aspects of the design of optical system, including:

· Definition of the optical architecture to meet requirements
· Detailed design and tolerancing of optical systems and sub assemblies
· Definition of detailed optical drawings
· Technical discussions with optical component subcontractors
· Definition of optical test methods
· Specification of production tooling and test equipment

You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of products that encompass thermal imaging, direct and indirect visual imaging, non-imaging and laser systems. You will be expected to support multiple projects and as such will require strong planning and organising skills.

You will have an aptitude for team working, with strong communication skills, allowing you to become an integral member of a multi-discipline team working across multiple domains including land, sea and air.



Skills, qualifications and experience
:

· You will have Bachelor or Masters Degree (BEng, BSc, MEng, MSc) in a Numerate, Scientific or Engineering subject or Higher Education/equivalent training and experience.
· You will be an experienced user of optical design software for optical design and tolerancing, Zemax experience preferred. You will have practical experience in building and testing optical systems.

Desirable Skills:

· Knowledge of designing for a military environment
· Designing for multiple wavebands
· Stray light analysis
· Knowledge of Code V optical design tool
