Operations Technician

We have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Technician to carry out faulting, maintenance, installation and programming of telecommunications equipment on Manchester Metrolink.

This is a full time, fixed term contract until 1St August, based at Manchester Metrolink's Trafford Depot.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Carrying out 1st and 2nd line fault investigations of TMS and tramstop equipment
- Undertake Maintenance, on site repairs and on site equipment swap outs and exchanges as required.
- Undertake Installations and equipment reprogramming; installing latest equipment configuration as required.
- Ensure safety of self, colleagues, contractors, customers and general public.
- Guiding others on safety matters and compliance with appropriate safety standards.
- Keeping up-to-date, reading, learning and putting instructions affecting the safety of systems into practice.
- Accurate maintenance of system records to ensure safety and reliability.
- Inspections of equipment and systems for safety defects.
- Rectification and testing of faults having safety implications prior to restoration to service.
- Testing and certifying the safety of new systems / installations.
- Recommending safety improvements in equipment and / or systems.

Essential

- Technical expertise in the faulting and maintenance of TMS and tramstop equipment or similar
- Electrical LV expertise
- Relevant experience in Operational Communications and/or Signalling Systems
- Technically qualified and certified competent.
- Full UK driving license
- Able to respond quickly and efficiently to maintenance call-outs
- Good verbal and written communication skills

Desirable

- Extensive experience as a 1st line technician
- Qualified to HNC level or equivalent and appropriate membership of a recognised engineering institution.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels
- A good outward appearance, self-motivation and the ability to work under pressure are vital.
