Mechanical Thermal Engineer
Bristol (City of Bristol) Design / Civil engineering / Industrial engineering
Job description
Thales Alenia Space (TAS) has more than 40 years' experience in designing, integration, testing, operation and commissioning of innovative space systems. Using some of the world's most sophisticated technologies, we meet the needs of a variety of commercial, government, scientific and security customers. Our teams create the technology to monitor our oceans, help us better understand climate change and drive scientific progress. We also supply the International Space Station and, as such, play a pivotal role in exploring the universe.
Thales Alenia Space requires an Mechanical / Thermal Engineer to be based from our offices in Bristol. The suitable individual will contribute to the Mechanical and Thermal engineering aspects related to a number of our highly innovative projects.
Key Responsibilities and tasks
· Contribute to the mechanical/thermal design activities for payload module in cooperation with other TAS entities and under the guidance of the Lead Mechanical/Thermal Architect.
· Support the mechanical/thermal design, establish the test plan/qualification sequence for the mechanical aspects.
· Contribute to the interface definition, in direct relation with the Payload System Engineer and other subsystems (Avionics, Thermal System)
· Support the identification of the key drivers for the product competitiveness related to mechanical/thermal aspects.
· Provide inputs to MGSE general requirements and interface definition
· Critically review inputs from Payload teams for inclusion in overall mathematical models
Experience and Skills
· Mechanical design with associated standard 3D CAD design software such as Solid Works, CATIA or PTC Creo.
· Production of 3D CAD assembly models, as well as 2 D drawings for manufacture, assembly and interface control.
· Experience with producing relevant documents and presenting at reviews.
· Either experience of structural analysis using Nastran Patran or another FEA code.
· Production of FEMs, including defeaturing, meshing and checking.
· Setting up, running and assessing static structural, dynamic and thermoelastic analyses.
· Experience of thermal analysis using ESATAN/ESARAD or other equivalent code
· Production of TMMs and running/assessing static and transient cases
· Experience with planning, executing and evaluating environmental tests, including thermal-vacuum and vibration
· Experience with validation of high-stability opto-mechanical structures would be of benefit
· Experience of working in a multi-discipline team environment
· Experience of working closely with Customer, partners, suppliers
· Experience in technical proposal preparation would be an asset
· Experience in Space domain would be highly desirable.
