A rare opportunity for an experienced ILS Technical Writer to join the Thales Maritime team based in Garden Island, Sydney

About the role:

The ILS Technical Writer will typically work closely with other members of the ILS team throughout a project/ILS life cycle. As an expert in CAD, Frame maker, MS Word 2003 for Windows, Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) you will compile, review, correct and update detailed technical documentation in line with project deliverables. Key Responsibilities:

The ILS Writer is responsible for:
· Ensuring the Thales ILS deliverables are of a consistent standard and delivered in accordance with the agreed milestones.
· Develop budgets, quotations for work packages and report on progress, % complete, ETC's and time spent.
Technical writing activities will include:
· Establishing a specific work breakdown structure for each unique set of documents which includes the provision of performance data into a repository to assist with the development of standard activity durations to assist with the establishment of accurate bid and project costs
· Controlling the development and implementation of the technical documents through the receipt and review of disparate input documents
· Formatting of the technical data and copy within existing templates, including minor tweaking of templates and writing style and change management controls
· Managing the multiple-step life-cycle of 200+ word documents including test procedures, monthly reports and ad-hoc formal customer communications
· Producing documents to a high standard appropriate for important third-party customer presentation

Key Skills and Experience:

To be successful in this role you will have most if not all of the following skills and qualifications;

· Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Engineering and a Technical and or trade background with qualification preferred
· Intermediate to expert knowledge of MS Word for Windows (including advanced template concepts, formatting and change management
· Technical aptitude associated with developing maintenance documentation
· Aptitude and experience for interpreting technical engineering information (drawings and manuals)
· Proven technical writing experience with experience of managing the technical documentation life-cycle will preferably be in an engineering discipline
· Ability to manage a range of technical writing activities and documentation deliverables;
· High attention to detail and ability to ensure content consistency;
· Experience within a Maritime and or Naval Maintenance environment with prior experience developing Maritime maintenance documentation and planning
· Ability to conduct some ILS LSA activities that complement publication writing
· Intermediate to expert knowledge of Adobe Framemaker
· Experience working with DEF(Aust) 5000 compliant documentation and exposure to working with MILIS, NAVALLOW, APPLECRATES

Special Requirements

· This role will require you to work with information covered by the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR)
· You must be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance.
