The CASIA Innovation Lab is a research and innovation hub within Thales Australia that is dedicated to exploring innovations in the field of Air Traffic Management. CASIA has successfully completed many innovative projects, including the use of eye-tracking and voice recognition functionality, optimisation of aircraft trajectories, use of biometrics and wearable technologies to assess operator workload, human factor and usability assessments of current and future products, and experimentation with unmanned airborne vehicles in civil airspace.
Our CASIA Innovations Project is looking for an enthusiastic intern to join the team in January 2017 for six or 12 months. This exciting opportunity will give you the chance to work on new, exciting and innovative products and features in the Air Traffic Management Domain. The charter of the team is to explore the future potential functionalities for Air Traffic Control operations through the prototyping, designing, developing and installing of new software solutions. On a day to day basis you will be responsible for:
· Determining solution feasibility through problem analysis and definition, requirements development and investigation of enabling technologies
· Developing software solutions by studying user needs, human factors, usability and UX models; studying systems flow, data usage and work processes
· Developing documentation to support the software solution, such as flowcharts, diagrams, code comments and UML
· Building and completing testing strategies including UAT
· Developing and building schedule and implementation plans for the software solution, reporting on progress, identifying and escalating potential risks or significant issues that could impact the schedule.
Potential areas of research and innovation expected to be conducted by this innovation team for the next year include use of eye tracking to support operator actions, mobile applications for simulation and pilot control, integrated information displays incorporating gesture recognition and 3D virtual reality environments.
As a progressive thinker with an enquiring mind, you possess the following qualifications, skills and attributes:
· Currently undertaking 2 nd or 3 rd year tertiary studies in Computer Science or Software Engineering , with a minimum of a credit grade point average
· Previous experience in an engineering or software environment as an intern, vacation student or in a related role would be an advantage.
· Solid knowledge and understanding of Object Orientated methodologies, software design patterns, UX design, and agile methodologies
· Good communication skills
· The ability to work independently and as a part of a team
