The Role

This position will work as a member of Tesla’s Materials Test Lab to support materials and part level testing, focusing on glass products.

Responsibilities

·  Perform & document a variety of testing on glass products, including
·  Mechanical – ring-on-ring, 4-pt bend, blunt and sharp object impact, abrasion, etc
·  Environmental – UV, thermal, humidity, chemical, etc
·  Characterization – color, surface profile, edge and bulk stress, etc
·  Design and build fixtures for mechanical testingand prepare test samples
·  Manage glass-related laboratory assets, ensuring all equipment is maintained, calibrated and
·  serviced on time
·  Support engineering staff in the root cause analysis of test failures,laboratory management in
·  the planning, procurement, purchase, and installation of capital expenditure

Desired profile

Requirements

·  An Associate Degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering,or equivalent required.
·  Extensive knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools, and fixtures used in the testing ofglass (experience with automotive glass or other laminated glazing is preferred)
·  Experience with high speed video capturing of impact events is a plus
·  Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
·  Ability to follow oral and written instructions
·  Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of hand and power tools
·  Experience working with vendors and external test labs is a plus
·  Must have valid driver’s license
