The Role:

Tesla Motors is seeking a motivated, experienced, and knowledgeable NPI Materials Program Manager to support the planning, warehousing and delivering of Material to the prototype/factory lines. The NPI project portfolio includes development vehicles (Model X, Generation 3 Charger, Dual Motor), OEM programs (Daimler), and internal projects (Stationary Storage and Tec90 test equipment). This person will be responsible for:

· Leading the NPI materials team (yourself + 1-3 other material planners) assigned to a given major program (e.g. Model X General Assembly).
· Represent material supply program status during Exec & daily build reviews
· Development of the material management strategy to support the prototype builds:
· Part kitting & presentation approach
· Replenishment strategy from warehouse to proto line
· Process to manage interface with engineering & non-production groups requiring parts (usually ad hoc requests)
· Coordination with overall Program Management on the proto build schedule (quantity & sequencing of units given product & process unit validation requirements & material availability)
· Lead the team in transitioning the product into production & hand-off of the planning responsibilities to Production Planning
· Managing all aspects of the part flow for the portfolio of parts that you own
· Alignment with engineering & sourcing on version control of what is being procured
· Validating that parts have been inspected & signed-off to support a build by design engineering. If modifications required, organizing the subcontracting of that work.
· Ensuring Parts arrive in timely manner to support the prototype build plan
· Oversight of the material flow thru the facility: receiving à NPI warehouse à movement to proto line.
· Transitioning the parts you own into the standard production processes including
· Working with supply chain (Sourcing & Supplier Industrialization Engineering) to plan the transition from bridge suppliers to production suppliers
· setting up production material planning & MRP validation
· allocating space in the production warehouse and ensuring first shipment go to QI and are inspected in a timely manner
· supporting development of the material handling strategy from warehouse to production floor

A successful candidate will have proven experience leading the launch of a major product into manufacturing. The person will have experience leading / facilitating multi-functional program teams & communicating with Senior Leadership. The person will be proficient in using the major IT systems used to support NPI & production: PLM (Tesla uses Enovia), ERP & MES (Tesla uses Warpdrive & MES – homegrown) and the associated processes to manage purchasing, planning and consumption. The person will be able to review bills of materials, on-hand inventory levels and open orders. He/she should be skilled in estimating cost and schedule impacts of material changes.

Responsibilities:

· Own the leadership communication on the program to all key stakeholders: program management, engineering & supply chain.
· Own the definition of the material presentation strategy during the builds & coordination of the resourcing to enable this
· Own the transition planning for the program / parts to be handed over to on-going production
· Plan, schedule, and manage the materials for delivering time-critical components to support the portfolio of parts / program that you are responsible for.
· Work with suppliers to establish the appropriate delivery quantity and frequency for Just In Time delivery and line-side kanban; coordinate with Supply Chain Specialist and Logistics as needed.
· Identify potential supply risks and inventory exposures by aligning supply chain processes with product development project plan milestones.
· Maintain accurate open Purchase Order lines to define the inbound quantities and due dates from vendors, identify system demand or BOM issues, and resolve inventory discrepancies in ERP system.
· Assist in implementing systematic solutions to control inventory flow, minimize shortages, and maintain accuracy in ERP system, MES system and MS Excel (where required). You are responsible for the inventory accuracy on your parts.
· Work fluidly in a highly cross-functional team environment involving manufacturing and product development teams, as well as supply chain specialists, manufacturing engineers, and logistics personnel.
· Generate and publish performance metrics on the program.

Requirements:

· BS/BA degree (ideally engineering oriented discipline), MS/MA Preferred
· 3-5 years related experience in production control, materials management, production planning, material scheduling, or purchasing in a manufacturing company
· Ability to balance a diverse work portfolio and dynamically prioritize tasks based on the trade-off between urgency (respond to a line down situation) and importance (make sure supply base setup for start of production)
· Analytical capabilities including data analysis to optimize delivery costs and inventory levels (Strong MS Excel Skills desired)
· Open-minded, collaborative and team-oriented attitude
· Strong work ethic
