Tesla Materials & Processes Engineering – Test Coordinator

Tesla Materials & Processes Engineering organization facilitates the Tesla mission of accelerating the world to sustainable transportation through identification and development of advanced materials and processes while supporting other Tesla Engineering and Manufacturing functions with Materials & Processes expertise.

Role

The Tesla Materials Engineering team is seeking a Test Coordinator to manage the large number of test programs required by Materials engineers on the team. The primary function of this role will be to manage material testing activities and incoming data from these tests under the guidance of Materials & Processes Engineers on the team. Specific responsibilities will include Statement of Work writing based on the test plan requirements provided by Materials Engineers, obtaining quotes from suppliers or coordinating with internal testing labs, placing purchase orders, establishing a test material inventory, distributing material for sample preparation and testing, managing progress of activities internally and at suppliers, communicating progress to Tesla Materials Engineers and stakeholders, collecting data and using this data to populate the Tesla’s Materials Information database.

A basic knowledge of Engineering Materials and Materials Characterization Methods is required. Successful candidates will be methodical, detail oriented and able to work under the guidance of highly technical team

Responsibilities:

Assist Materials Engineering team members with the definition and execution of test programs

Create Statements of Work for testing

Meet with suppliers to source and coordinate test activities

Create of Purchase Orders for raw materials, sample preparation and testing

Manage Test Material inventory

Coordinate delivery of material to suppliers to execute sample fabrication

and testing

Collection of data generated by tests

Upload of data into Tesla’s Materials Information database

Desired profile

Requirements:

Methodical, detail oriented, highly organized, individual able to effectively manage a number of parallel activities.

Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Excellent communicator, able to establish detailed project plans with minimal, sometimes abstract, guidance from customers.

Computer programming, database management preferred

​Entry level knowledge ofmaterialcharacterization methods

Entry level knowledge of Engineering Materials (Metals, Polymers, etc.), Processes (Forming, Welding, Fastening).

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or similar (e.g. Engineering Technology).
